MOT Inspections

Hi, my husband and I are traveling back from MOT. We are in the process of purchasing our first RV (Foretravel) . While my husband is very mechanically inclined, we still would like to get an independent rv inspector. I have been perusing this forum. I saw the Keith and Brent were awesome! Unfortunately Keith is not currently inspecting at MOT and it apppears Brent has moved to Florida and is not inspecting there either. (Correct me if wrong) The names recommended there were Aiden Marshall, Larry Fuller, and Ronnie Simons. Has anyone recently had an inspection there? Anyone used any of these men? Have you used someone else? Can anyone share your experience and thoughts on who to use or not use and why?

You mention that Keith is no longer inspecting at MOT.

BUT, have you contacted Keith directly to see if he will do a coach inspection?

Yes, we have contacted Keith. We would love for him to do our inspection! But, there was a falling out between Keith and MOT. We don't know the details. But, there seems to be a impasse between them working together. So, while we can use him after the purchase, sadly it isn't working out for preinspection. We've tried.

If anyone has any other thoughts or options we are all ears. Feel free to respond here or private message us.

Ask Keith for a suggestion. He, probably better than anyone knows the capabilities of Foretravel techs in the Nacogdoches area.

Bummer. Keith being readily available to inspect a coach was really the only reason I bought from MOT.

Keith is a phone call away right now. And can travel nation wide to inspect for anyone. Just call him up and tell him where you will be. Easy

Not important or related to mot Keith change...get Keith. May be a better person out there but I not know one.

Keith travels all over the country inspecting coaches for prospective buyers. The buyer pays for the inspection fee, plus travel, meals and lodging. We were in Nac back in Feb and ran into Keith at Extreme and FOT. He told me about some of his travels, but we didn't get into the "weeds" about his expenses. Are you saying that you contacted Keith about an inspection of a consigned coach located at MOT? That he informed you MOT will not let him on the property to inspect said coach? If true, that's bad! Check out the AZ Expert (https://www.youtube.com/user/azrvexpert). I've watched a couple of his YouTube videos. Looks like he knows a little about RV inspections. Has done some inspections at Premium Coach Group, Gilbert AZ. Don't know if he travels. What ever you do, don't buy a preowned coach without getting an independent inspection prior to closing. I'd go further and have a fluid analyses on the engine, tranny, rear end, cooling system, and the same for the genset and aqua hot. If the prospective coach doesn't come with good maintenance records, think twice. The previous owner(s) probably were not OCD about proper maintenance.

Ive never crossed paths with Keith but over the past couple of years I will say everyone has good things to say about him. I would personally go the extra mile to secure him for your prepurchase inspection. Yes its a additional cost, but it will save you more than it costs. Its better to go into such a big purchase knowing the facts from someone who knows the facts. Just my opinion.

Well if you tell MOT that your purchase is contingent on Keith doing the inspection I bet they will relent. Their duty is to the owner to get a sale.

Has anyone here heard of Keith doing post purchase inspections? To know if you're up against any major issues that should be addressed sooner rather than later. A guy I know, me, bought a Foretravel knowing absolutely nothing of the brand and now is in love with the beast. Want to travel in it and give it the best care possible from here on out...

We were at MOT last year and Keith was involved in some of the work on our coach. While he didn't do a formal inspection he did notice a couple of things that were promptly fixed. If I had lots of money I'd have him check my coach annually.

Keith still calls me once in a while to catch up and see how my wife is doing after her fight with cancer. He's just that kind of guy. He's going to have no shortage of business in his new venture.

I have had MOT take a coach to the factory for a pre-delivery inspection and that worked out well. I have also had MOT do a pre-purchase inspection on a consignment coach (at the salesman's suggestion that they were as good as the factory) that I bought off of them - DO NOT HAVE MOT DUE THE INSPECTION !!!!!!!

Or you can inspect the coach yourself like I did - that cost me $6,000 to $7,000.

I backed out of a deal today because they would not let Keith do the inspection.

I suspect this'll be enough to lose MOT a lot of business moving forward, my own included. I wouldn't want to consign a coach under those conditions and wouldn't be willing to purchase one either. Super shady.

My thoughts on things are changing. We've all seen and heard horror stories about buying vehicles from afar- ebay, BAT, Cars n Bids, etc. I saw 1 person several years ago who was proactive and got a PPI before he listed his high end sports car. He addressed some of the issues and declined some, but it was all transparent for any buyer. I like this idea a lot, so long as it's done by a reputable shop/person and its done in a timely window.

For all those considering consigning or selling their coach (or vehicle), get a PPI done by a reputable person, address what you want, or not, make the report available to all, and price accordingly. In this case, take it to Keith beforehand. The buyer can see the results knowing it was inspected by a trusted source and feel more confident about buying your rig. A well spent 2-3 hundred dollars IMO. Heck, if it's sorted, you could actually get more than you think!

Sad to hear all of this concerning Keith and MOT. I would love to know the whole entire story. We bought our coach from MOT and had Keith do the inspection. He did a great job and was very detailed in every way. I would not have bought from MOT had they not let me hire him to inspect my coach after hours.
