Backup camera

When I went to get the new tires yesterday I noticed that the backup camera wasn't working. Checked the salesman switch - ON. Tried cycling through all of the settings on the monitor - nothing. Today I went looking for fuses and anything else that wasn't working. Didn't find any issues.

Since the camera is a wireless, mounted outside, I suppose it may have died after almost 10 years, but I'm cheap and getting old. Before I go buy a new camera and then have to mount it, I want to make sure that the current one truly is dead.

Tomorrow I'm going to empty the overhead cabinet enough to get to the inside connections for the camera and see if maybe something came loose. If not, any guesses as to what circuit might power the camera? Some people have been known to get power for one from a marker light, so I checked to see if they are all working. They are. Nothing else seems to be not working.

I think you will just need to open it up and look for the power source.  Depends on who did the installation.  When I redid my camera, I used the existing power feed in the original camera wire bundle.

I did the same as Rich - used the existing power wire for the old camera to power my wireless backup cam.

I just uploaded the Audit monitor wiring schematic to the Forum library.  Link below.  If your coach is wired the same as ours, the 64 RD power wire to your rear camera comes off the MONITOR switch on the dash.  When you turn on your Audit monitor, you also send power to the rear camera.

On my coach, the MONITOR switch is powered from a 5A fuse in the fuse block under the lift-up dash cover.  Fuse is in the second group from the right end.  It is marked SYS MON.

I guess I am kind of ignorant when it comes to electricity, but doesn't "wireless" mean there are NO wires?

The video signal from camera to monitor is wireless.

We won't be able to totally eliminate wires until we solve the problem of transmitting electric power wirelessly over long distances.  Until then, even a "wireless" device will need a power source (in this case, a wire).

Tesla was working on this problem back in the day.  Some say he actually discovered the solution, but it was buried by the big electric utility companies.

And if you lived in England there is a fiction paperback with the title of "The Dolphin Boy" by Russ Meyer that has mention of transmitting power. Also the followup was titled something like "Daughters of the Dolphin Boy".
Unfortunately only available in England.
I once had a copy of it and the followup but that was about 55 years ago.
Love to have another.

Fuse under the dash? OK. I'll start digging there. Since we're just moved back into the coach, lots of stuff still hasn't found homes yet, so no matter which end of the coach I want to work on I'll have to move stuff out of the way.

The power to the back goes through the wall of the coach and comes off the Audit unit up front.

Played around with it and it is working now. Not sure what I did to fix it, but it is fixed. I took out the fuse, checked it (good), put it back, still nothing. Turned the Audit switches off and on, and a minute or so later it was working. I got a phone call right as I was flipping switches, so don't know what did the trick.

 Mine needs the ground wire  in the rear cabinet snugged every once in a while . That has been the only failure. .  The screen is not quite centered either .  Off by a MM or so.
