Pos-a-loc door arm

Nebraska in July is a God forsaken place.  The heat, humidity, and wind all at the same time is unlike anything that I've seen. I'm not sure how the people here manage to be so friendly.

I got up in the middle of the night to bring the awnings in and the second I opened the door, the wind ripped it right out of my hand and tore the pos a loc right off the coach.

This post is mostly just venting but if anyone has a link to the part or advice for the job that's always welcome too. TIA

Thanks Mike, that was a pretty painless experience. I'm a little bummed to learn they no longer make the kind we have in the FTs, where you can disengage the arm by pulling the door handle. Oh well... small peanuts and one less thing for Future Elliott to replace.

Because they do not sell the pos-a-loc anymore. If I was to have that happen I would attempt to repair it. If you keep it until you get home you might do the same. If not I would buy it.

Any good fabrication shop can fix it easily. Mine took about 20 minutes. Find a shop that builds race cars or custom handrails.

Thanks guys, Scott offered to fix it up for me so I'm going that route first. It'll probably come back capable of withstanding a meteor strike.

After running errands this morning I'm realizing we got off good. Most farms have at least one destroyed irrigation pivot from the wind last night and there were flipped trucks in the ditch. I am absolutely shocked my awnings withstood that... kudos to zip dee.

If Scott is fixing it, it will be better than new.

Elliot ya'll were in NE and didn't stop by?

Wind took our pos-a-lock out last week too, still dealing with that but at least we're home.
Be sure to post final repair actions.

Man that sucks. Hopefully it's an easy and painless fix.  On a side note I'm pretty sure I've got you beat as far as humidity and heat goes.  Right now we are begging for wind.

We didn't know! Next time, If the wind doesn't take us out first.

Eddie, I don't know where you live that's hotter than 110° and humid, but you don't have to worry about me visiting anytime soon

We too lost ours a couple of years ago and have had good luck with the new version. Still holds door open in stiff wind but no more ragging on guests who never seemed to remember to pull the handle.

I would prefer that the door wouldn't lock open. It's something I will look into. I  would like
to be able to choose whether it's lock open.

I think a simple latch on top of the door to disable the lock paw would be easy to do. You would have to open door and fully pull door and then set latch to hold paw open. Same to release

Elliot that thing looked like it was in a big wind storm. How's the rest of the coach? Replaced missing pivot pin and spring washer. Pin was made from grade 8 bolt and reduced the head. Should last a long time. Remember to oil points of rotation and lock paw every six months. Its headed back your way. 🪝

FOT had some old stock of them a few years ago. I imagine they are gone but it wouldn't hurt to ask.
