New Under Cabinet Water Filter

Remember the days of struggling with that factory filter and the cost of replacements?  I decided to remove that beast and install this one from Amazon.  Extra filters are less than half of what the original ones were charging and so much easier to R&R.  The filter lines up with the original hole, so no issues there either.  It does take 3/8 hose, but then I reduced to 1/4 for ice maker and secondary faucet.  I use to dread changing that filter, as there is no room under sink and trying to turn that ring and either install or remove that filter was a chore.  Posted is the link for the new system!  Hope this helps others out there!

My arms are too short to reach the OEM filter for replacement. Thanks for posting this, good solution.

The filter under the sink was missing so I ordered a new filter from Foretravel and when I
went to put in the second picture was in the way. It looks different than the new one I guess
Foretravel sent the wrong one or am I missing something. The one from Amazon looks like
 a better option.

Peter,

The filter in the 1st pic. looks the same as our OEM filter. The 2nd pic. looks like the blank that goes in the housing for freeze protection.

The old style factory head with ring was definitely a pain for me. I recently ordered the new style filter head with no ring and it is much easier. However, the last two filters I ordered continue, intermittently, to turn the water dark with charcoal. Both filters had water flow thru them beyond the recommended 3 minutes. I have not been able to resolve that issue yet but working on it. If not resolved, I will try your conversation juicesqueezer.

Thanks Mike, that makes sense. I tried again and got it in and now I have to get a cap
for the tee as the the line for the ice maker is gone. It sure isn't easy to get at and my
sore back doesn't help.

I just did this. This is the 3rd one I installed, but this was different from the others. About 2 weeks ago while prepping for a trip, my old unit started leaking. I replaced the filter not that long ago, and I knew I didn't want to mess with this contraption again.

Per Juice, I picked up 2 sharkbites. The rest was just plug n play. I didn't even need a drill for the new holes. The mount moved closer to the front slightly but still within the large hole so the filter could drop in. I did disconnect my ice maker feed, it was turned off as we never use it, plus for those who recall, it leaked back in March on the outside drain section due to an old hose adapter gasket. Good riddance there. If I want ice, I'll get a stand alone ice maker, my in laws have one and it works well and they're reasonable

The filtrete kit has gone up in price, like most things. I used camel to alert me of a drop, which got me back to the $47 range within a day. The best part about this is the ease of changing them out as well as their availability.

Thanks again @juicesqueezer
