Trouble shooting failure
Friend of mine purchased a SOB. He started having problems electrically just about day one. I offered to loan him my coach extension cord but he said he had checked his and it was good. Since he has burned up two inverter's, one transfer switch and replaced both ac units. Every time the ACs would come on the inverter would see low ac power and start up, the interruption would continue without ever letting the ac start. I finally dedicated some time to look at it. It. Was just as he described. Finally while using two volt metersI noticed that one leg would go up in voltage as the ac was trying to start. Would drop the other line voltage to 113 from 120, other unused leg would jump up to 130 volts. Went to out side plug to try and isolate a bad power cord real and same thing ahead of the plug. Went to the plug on his shop were his coach extension cord was plugged in and it was normal. Failing neutral in his cord. No load checked good but would get resistance once loaded. A bad cord has cost him thousands. He was just about to drive to a guy down in San Diego to get it repaired. Would of been another 700 in fuel.
Going to order him a book everyone should understand.
