Broken Step cylinder rod

One of the rods on the two cylinders broke, appears to have sheared off. The clevis is there still as is the rod. Right now, the broken one pops when closing/opening.

It looks like MAZ has the part # from FT Entry step broke, need new ram  For search purposes, it is economair 2418-b111-RO2.  However, is there a place where you can pick one up? Or is there a way to repair the current one?

I would try welding the clevis back to the rod if that is where it is broken.

Here is what I am dealing with. Do you think this can be welded? It seems to have failed at the thinner point where it transitions.

I've also put some tape on the magnet to try and prevent the step from going down. The button on the front passenger firewall doesn't seem to work, so if someone knows how to prevent the step from lowering that would be good to know.

Mine broke in the same place several years ago.  Welded it back together and it is still holding today.

Took it out today and got it fixed up. Cheaper and easier than a replacement. Nice to be able to use it again, thanks for the suggestion.
