Steering gear box leaking 1995 U300

Gear box  leaking on left side from large plastic plug.not sure if it can be repaired without removing complete unit. From post i have read apparently its a sheppard M100 but need correct part number to either replace or have rebuilt.Sheppard instructions on complete part number is located behind mounting area.Wondering if someone has had this problem and which direction to go that hopefully is less expensive. Not sure how plastic plug is secured to housing. I could remove complete end cap which would include plastic plug but with out schematic not sure what is behind.Any and all input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks  Curley

This is a common thing that happens.  There are several threads that deal with this problem. Some remove and send off to a rebuilder the 2 that is most often used is Chalks or Red head.  With your location Chalks would be the closest (Houston area) and most likely could do a rebuild while you wait. Some have DIY with new seals and there are several threads on that way also. If you are a contortionist  you can reseal it without pulling the case.

Dont know if your box is the same. Very heavy and out of position. Requires special tools to remove and reinstall.

Curley, if it's just the driver side seal leaking, it is relatively easy to remove and replace that seal with the box in place.  Do a search here and you should be able to find the seal part number. I got mine on Ebay.  You can do the seal change without losing too much hydraulic fluid.
