Shurflo 4048 Included Screen Strainer

Just a heads up for those who use the included strainer with their Shurflo pump.  I'm on the road and had good water pressure with the campground pedestal water connections and almost none when trying to run off my tank.  I heard the pump running and saw water in the pristine looking strainer fitting, so I assumed my pump diaphragm was bad.  Figured I'd remove and replace with my spare, then rebuild the old pump head when we get home.  When I removed the strainer, I discovered that it was completely blocked on the inside of that shiny screen.  I didn't realize that the water flow was from inside the screen out, so the obstructed screen was entirely invisible to me until I removed it.  My pump was replaced 7/16 and I descaled with vinegar a couple of times since then so really no surprise.  I just couldn't tell by a casual look from the outside.  Cleaned it up with a toothbrush and we're back in business.

I notice you have the screen air up on the strainer. Is it not supposed to be down?

On a side note, your arrangement with the metal hoses and adapters is nice. My pump combo has the hose/pressure switch side on the inside of the bay towards the tank. I am going to use your idea with the metal hoses to flip the business end around, which will make working with it easy, including checking the screen. Thanks for posting and sharing your configuration.

Another version of the same basic setup.  There's more space available to arrange things in our GV.

I flipped the strainer over for a try.  No appreciable difference that I can detect.  My bay is tight.  So tight that I was originally going to delete the strainer.
