Slide stuck open

Hello, First I would like to thank Pierce and I think Dillon for checking out my Foretravel for me. I Purchased this past week. Thank you guys!!! You made my purchase so much easier!

So I have a problem with the slide, It is stuck in the open position, the pump runs but the slide will not pull in. Like it is going over relief pressure. Is there lock pins in the out position? I am trying to learn the system and no better way than to start here. Thanks in advance.

It will depend on what year you have for anyone to give you the sequence.  Please post what year, model, etc., as some years have  locking pins that need to release before the slide comes in.  Also, make sure that the bladder is full deflated around the slide.
Visual is the best method!  Good luck and someone on here will be able to assist when the year, etc. is known!

Yes it does have lock pins but they do not deploy with slide extended only when retracted

Probably the magnets need adjusted.. take a magnet on a stick like you use for getting a bolt out of an engine compartment.. touch it close to the magnet on the slide area above and behind the header. If that is the problem you can adjust the magnets at that time

May try to extend to rest anything that might of drifted while extended. There is a position display down stairs and mine is on the ceiling of the main storage on drivers side. If any of the reed position switches disagree or it is out of level or configured wrong it will not enable retraction. Also dont forget to leave the front door open to vent room air out.

Ok when you turn the key on the slide control panel the yellow light comes on and the red light should start flashing. When the red light stops flashing and then stays steady that should indicate that the the bladder has retracted. Visually check that the bladder is not in contact with the outside of the slide room. While all this going on the 12v air compressor should be running. When you press the retract button it sends a signal to a solenoid on the HWH hydraulic manifold that opens and sends fluid to the retract side of the cylinder. There are other fuses and solenoids in the control system that may be at fault. Make sure the coach is level and the parking brake is ON.
The HWH web site has detailed diagnostics for troubleshooting your problem.

Good luck!

Thank you everyone. I have a 2001 u320. I was able to get the slide in.  I was in my driveway on a slant moved forward and everything worked fine, still slanted so who knows. If there is a problem with it I am pretty sure it will act up at the worst possible time. lol.  It is the coach in the bulkhead photos.

Partime,  With the main engine running, air pressure up and travel light "green", that is the best time to move the slides.  Level the coach after the slide is moved.  The slide will move many times when level.  But every so often, it will not.  Moving forward solved the issue this time.

And, if your Aqua Hot diesel burner is smelling and/or smoking, service the burner.  Once it is firing clean and clear, run the burner once per month, year round.  No excuses to not run once per month.

All the best.

Please do not forget to pull and clean the combustion chamber and the U-channel chamber it came out of.  Replace the chamber with the seam up at 12 o'clock.  Tighten the new nozzle and loosen 1/4 turn and tighten it a second time.

Clean the chamber with a wire bush.  Does not need to be prestine, just get the soot off.  If you have a shop vac, makes this eaiser and better.  Otherwise let the u-channel soot go down the exhaust pipe.

You should not normally be able to drive with the slide out. If you were able to put the coach in drive and move it with the slide out, your travel interlock switch is off. You should at least check it so you know the status.

This is a little vague. If I understand you correctly, this adjustment will be made from inside the coach? The "header " you refer to is the big trim above the inside of the slide.? The magnets can then be adjusted? How?? What is the adjustment I am looking for?

In another thread, where I mention that my " Level System" lights up, and the alarm sounds, I was told that lock pin sensors might need adjustment. How do I adjust the sensors? Again, from the inside, after dropping the big " header"??

Glenn HWH has pretty good manuals and training aids online. Best thing is to learn what has to happen to enable the next step. Using the switch position indicator next to the HWH computer is very useful but a pain to access. Our coach has open, stow switches with and then each lock pin has a sensor. Being out of level during operation can cause the slide to migrate forward or aft and cause stow sensors to be out of range when retracted. Extend switches are on the actuator arms. Lot going on. Kinda a cause and effect to operate. One problem or anomaly and it won't participate. Also the 2001 is different from the 2002 and 2003. 2003+ is better IMO in reading about them. I think the lock pins could be eliminated deleting half our issues. Too redundant. IMO. but that's a entire different discussion.

Thanks, Scott, but my question still remains
Are the adjustments mentioned accessed inside after dropping the big trim piece over the slide?
I will look for the info you mention

I was able to move the coach forward because I was on a slant and just released the brakes.

Yes, I would expect the components to be accessed from the inside. They are on mine.

Yes there is two stow sensors that once both have agreed that the slide is in will allow the lock sequence to proceed till all four lock actuators indicate fully deployed then it seeks 3000 (as I recall) psi to shut the pump off. Two of the lock sensors are under the long panel at ceiling and two under couch and dinette. Stow sensors are mounted to upper lock actuator but magnets are in the roof of the slide. They are not part of the lock actuator . There are non in the bottom. There is extend retract position switches on the arms but are for overhead lighting.

I am curious about your advice concerning moving the slide. On our coach the slide will not move unless the HWH panel shows that the coach is level. Is this something that was changed over the years?

On my IH45 I can move the slides in if level or not.  The book said if the slides are wet to tilt the coach so the water runs off the top of the slide while bringing them in.

My owners manual says "the coach should be leveled before extending a room".
And as Turbojack stated it says to tilt the coach if rainwater is present on the awning and top of the slide before retracting.
Somewhat confusing for sure.

You can tilt, drain the water and then relevel. I find a little tilt is just enough for the squeegee strip to push the water off as you retract.
