Front axle socket size.

I recently bought a bunch of large sockets at a auction for 16 bucks , in the event I would like to do brakes and bearings on the bus.
As you can see from the picture I have a bunch so for u guys that have had your front ends apart can you give me a idea what size the outer and inner nut size is? Thanks Andy

The outer is 1 1/2" and the inner is a 3/4 square. Looks like yours are all too big. You might have the rear end axle nut socket Dave or Bob could tell you. That is the wheel size nut. If you mean axle nut on the front, that I don't know but both nuts are the same size.

You really don't need a socket for the front. Channel locks work fine. Don't want to go into the issue of pre-load, and clearance as the last time the thread went on for weeks.

Just measure across the nut. Some are 2 1/4 and some are 2 1/2. Really need to pull the stemco cover and measure to be sure. Install with a new gasket and refill.

Andy,
One of those open back sockets looks like the stuff I used to use when I was in a rate shop.
To answer your question, the axle nut size is in the 31/2 to 4" as I remember. Those open back sockets look like they should have something that'll fit the job, they are basically a hand driven socket.
I'm sure everyone has their own approved method of setting the nut when you put it all back together so I'll not bother telling you how I always did it.

I was talking about the front wheel bearing nuts. The rear axle nuts are much larger like the 3 1/2-4 inch size. You don't need to take the rotors off to do the brakes on these coaches unless a caliper sticks and burns up the rotor.

The ad is for 2 1/2 inch drive and 6 3/4" to 8" never even heard of 2 1/2 inch drive impact. If it exists it is for some kind of manufacturing.

Your probably right Craneman, some sort of specialized tool set.  Just couldn't believe that they charge $49,000 for a set.
