Aqua Hot shutting off Heat

We have been running the Aqua Hot, continually, for days now, to keep us warm. It has been doing fine, up until today.
It is very cold here, in Green Bay, and I noticed the green light to the gas switch was unlit. I took a deep breath, and hit the switch, and it came on.....for a while. I just noticed it was out, again. I hit the switch, and it came on. I hope to contact Rudy, tomorrow, to see what might be causing this to go out.
I have a small, ceramic heater, just in case, but we will use up battery power quickly, and the generator will come on. I need the AH until we get to Texas, and then, maybe detour to see Rudy.
Oh well.....always something......

Glenn, the light goes out when the diesel fails to fire and the control unit faults.  Burner service usually fixes this condition unless you have a component failure.  Come on down and we will get you turning and burning.

If you have a nozzle, I can walk you through the service on the phone.

Stay warm till then

Do you have one of the new controllers? If you have a silver controller they go bad and create the symptoms you have also.

Change nozzle/filter. clean unit including the photosensor.

Check fuel hoses for cracks. If cracked, replace. Air can get into the line and cause a failure to fire.

Potential issue with the control unit on the burner. May need to be replaced or refurbished.

I had the same issue a couple of months back. Changed the fuel lines and it worked pretty well. Eventually I noticed the timing of the shut off and ignition was off a bit. Eventually the burner would fail to fire but the fuel pump would continue to run. Because of that, raw fuel would be leaking out of the exhaust until I noticed, shut off the burner, let it sit for a couple of minutes, and turned the burner back on. Lots of white smoke occured afterwards. I have since purchased a refurb silver control box. No problems since..

We had the exact same issue this Spring when we purchased our coach.  The AH would run like a champion for a day or two, then all of the sudden, no heat and the light was out.  Flip the switch on/off and the AH would fire back up.  We did not want to risk the AH going out and freezing something, so we kept a watchful eye on the switch.  The previous owner had been changing out the Webasto controller frequently, so frequently that we inherited 5 or 6 of those silver controllers.  I would swap out a controller, it would work for a couple of weeks, then fault out.  Talked to Rudy and he sent us the new and improved controller.  Absolutely no issue since I plugged  the new one in.  Money well spent....Thank You Rudy.

I recommend reading this BEFORE talking to Rudy on the phone. It greatly helped me understand what he was having me do and why.

Bought solid state controller from Rudy a few years ago. Just pulled into a RV park so I can now service the AH. We were at Cabellas last night.
Could be bad hoses....I'll look

Bad hoses can also cause the motor to sound different. When there is a lack of pressure on the fuel side, the motor will run a little faster. You can hear a difference in the speed when the burner is receiving fuel. A motor that is running fast then slow then fast etc., there is likely a fuel issue.

Barnyard quarterbacking I'm guessing failing ignition. Trouble shooting guide I posted is easy to follow and easily will resolve issues  Seems the mandatory spares keeps increasing. Blaming it on Putin.

The spares I used to carry before carrying a complete burner included motor, flame sensor, coil and controller. That would solve almost all problems. Last trip out the swirler failed and cut my trip short. Put a new one in when we got home and now good to go again.

Rudy had me jump a white from T stat to c clip
It started to spin but never " fired" up
Fuel problem. Maybe coil?
We will find out and I'll let you know
I have a spare controller but now wonder what other spare parts I need
Especially while in Mexico for as long as we stay

If you want all the parts that fail the most they are nozzle, flame sensor, coil, motor and controller (if you have the silver one)

Where are you guys picking up spares? Buying new/reman would mean many hundreds of dollars

Correct, the new controller is just under 1k and the motor and coil were pricey too. Not so much for flame sensor and nozzles. I considered it insurance that our trips would not be cut short or disrupted. Finally bought a used burner in the classified and leave the spares at home to be used if I have to use the spare while on a trip. I think the new controllers will eliminate the issue of failure.

Just got done getting the AquaHot working, again. It turned out to be a combination of a few things. Without getting too wordy, I will say that there was a wiring issue that involved the t-stats that got corrected, but I also had a fuel leak somewhere, and the base of the AH had a film of diesel on it. It turned out to be a bad fuel pump which led to a bad motor.....two of the most costly items you have on an AH. I now have a pretty good handle on how things work on the unit. I have been doing my own yearly service, and after watching the rebuild of the burner, feel that I am even more comfortable working on it, in the future. Of course, names like Keith and Rudy are to be mentioned. Without their help, we would be AquaCold.
