30 day Poll: Replacement Frameless Window Interest.


I'm planning on going through FOT to order modern frameless windows to replace the ugly, heavy, leaky, mostly stuck sliders in the bedroom and living room of my coach.  These windows are the same style as in most all the new RV's.  They would be single or dual pane, tinted, ceramic coated with a higher R rating than the double pane windows currently in the coach, and have optional tip out bottom 1/3 panels similar to the picture below, so that no window awning required during precip.  At least one in the BR and one in the LR should have emergency exit releases.  I predict by replacing all 5 large windows, it would cut coach weight by at least 150 pounds.  Initial estimate is they'd be around $1200-$1400 each plus freight and must be custom made to fit our window openings.  FOT parts would make the actual purchase order, since they have the exact measurements for your window openings, but it'll have to be up to each of you to make the buy...no Motorcade discount.  I will have mine drop shipped to my home address this spring, and will install them myself, but most RV facilities should be able to do the work if you aren't up to it.  Guessing that if Peninsula can make a bulk production run, the more that are ordered, the lower the cost?  Woody.

No skin in the game, but we have those windows in our LTV.  The emergency window is a bit odd.  You're not supposed to open it at all except in an emergency as the glass is designed to fall out.  We used to enjoy having all our coach windows open in the Foretravel, so this would be a negative for us.

Be aware that laminated windows like that are also similar to the SiGe ones Foretravel used and another window type that Entegra is using and people are reporting failures and windows falling out while doing down the road.  There are some NHTSA safety complaints about them.

If you are going that price- add air operated fold out windows like Prevost has.

Bump.  For those of you happy with your sliders, could you explain how you make them slide all the way open?  And does dirt get in past the felt divider?  TIA.  Woody.

We bought a special spray for RV windows.  It seems to be the usual silicone spray.  But the can has a snoot with multiple ports, which sends a lot of spray into  the track.  The spray helped some.

I would like the new style windows, but I am totally unrealistic about what they should cost.

Previous owner replaced all the windows in my coach with motion windows. Except for one that is fixed all the other slide to open. I am happy with those windows. And I think if I had original windows that I would want to upgrade them if I was in the coach full time. But that seems kind of high to me per window.

So do they have screens?
I agree that they are a PITA. DW hates them. The factory glass is full of imperfections and has zero UV rating. I was thinking that rebuilding what I have with modern glass would resolve my issues and making them thinner should help with there operation. Windows are expensive.

We slide most of the windows fully open quite often. Maybe because most of the time we are dry camping.
It seems like you are giving up a significant portion of the airflow if you went with the tilt out or small bottom portion slider. If your use is climates where you are using the heat or using the A/C most of the time then it probably won't matter. For us the sliding windows are a feature that would be very hard to give up. We often comment on newer rigs about the lack of ability to open windows fully. We thought it was a cost saving switch by manufactures.

Something to consider:
One seal to keep the elements out on a "frameless" window.
On a track style window the elements have to go down into the "U-shaped" seal then across under the glass, then back up inside the coach.
You decide which you prefer. Me? I will stay with the tried and true method that has worked for so many years on so many high quality RVs.

Our windows work fine. We never really open them for fresh air because we like to run the A/C.
One thing I would be interested in is getting windows with a vinyl frame .

Woody, I have the Motion Windows in the bedroom only and they are wonderful.  Easy open close and lock with screens.  Half of the window opens. These are sliders, just like the original ones on the U320.  I just checked their online pricing and once you do a quote, they email you the quote immediately.  Not sure how close I was with the measurements, but the price I got was just under $650 ea.  This was for anodized aluminum frame, double pane, tinted, sliding on one and ability to lock.  This is a great price for those of use who can do their own, but they do offer installation at their factory in WA, but suggest the ease and ability to install your own.  I now want to replace all the windows in the livingroom as it takes two hands and some sweat to open.  I have a window brush that helps with the track cleaning and do spray with silicone, which really helps.  A strong vacuum will also help in removing the debris!  Hope this helps some out there!

Our windows were not working that great but I cleaned the window tracks and used silicone on them and now they actually work fairly well. I have one bedroom window that is still a little stiff but all the others slide easily. I soaked the rubber parts of the window tracks with this stuff. Used a couple of 4 oz bottles.

This stuff is easier to apply if you have some type of applicator. I just used a dental syringe.
