I was wondering why You couldn't install that way. Good to know. Ill be ordering a set up to install in early 2023 and may follow your lead.

The Fass pump returns a lot of fuel back to the tank. That's why Fass says to use a separate line.
They say that it could cause pressure in the engine return line and damage to the engine.

You will need to supply your own fittings to tie the FASS return in with the engine return. The Industrial Series System has a low volume return and does not need it's own return line run directly to the fuel tank. See the below picture of the FASS return tied into the engine return

Just for reference if the return would go threw the ECM cooler plate that would help to reduce temps By having a higher flow of fuel. 👍👍 I think I like. I did see a warning in this same installation that said not to install in return line counter dictating what they said but I think that was for the hi flow pumps?

Some say the root cause for the CAPS fuel injection pump failure is low fuel pressure from the lift pump to the fuel injection pump. The problems with the CAPS system  First off, they HATE fuel restriction and/or air in the fuel system. I realize this applies to most fuel systems, but the CAPS system really seemed to suffer from it.

I know this is opening up an old wound, but the Cummins ISM in U320 coaches do not have a lift pump, and I have never heard of fuel starvation in one from other than clogged filters, water, algae, or aged out fuel lines pulling air.  Installing a FASS pump into an ISM fuel system seems to be throwing money at a problem that does not exist.  Or does it?  Fire away.

I agree with you Woody. A Fass system on our engines might have a power benefit but the only starvation problems are what you mention filters and bad fuel lines. I will save the money for other improvements.

Hi woody, spend your money where you want. I was replacing my 20 year old Racor system it does have a priming function. I believe the Fass pump to be a superior system in removing water air dirt from fuel and not rely solely on the Cap system to pull the fuel from 40 feet away. Like anything do your homework and make a decision. Good luck. :)

I bought my Fass System to help with the fuel pump and to clean the fuel but mostly to take the
air out of the fuel.

I did the full system install last summer. BUT on an ISC.

FASS fuel system install upgrade

However, my U295 ISC was a situation that did have one of the Lift pumps that is known to have leaking air issues. And mine did start leaking right before I did the conversion. This conversion has been talked about on many RV forums, but all I read were about doing this due to the lift pump leaking issue. To my knowledge there was very little talk about it here on Foreforums. Hence I did my post after I did mine.

As for the topic of tapping into the Factory fuel return line. At least on the ISC, it is not recommended by Both Cummins and by Fass. I spoke with a rep at both FASS and CUMMINS on the topic before doing my conversion. Both stated it was best not to do it. The normal fuel return line flow is very low pressure Sorry cant remember the numbers from Cummins at the moment. The fass system return is in the 14-20 PSI range. The concern stated by both is that the high pressure "might"could cause some sort of back pressure on the injector path.

I do tend to agree with some replies on this post. This system upgrade/conversion is mainly done due to poor system design on those that have the gasketed lift pump. To do this on an engine that does not have that design is probably no gain other than the fact you do get extra filtration and fuel Polishing as the system runs, IF you buy the full FASS system. If all you are doing is installing the FASS pump, your just replacing the pump you already have.
