Derivative works/sites

Michelle, I believe All Things Foretravel is/was from the Beam Alarm site.  Am I correct that the Beam Alarm site was taken over / run by MOT?

You are correct.  The Beam Alarm site was acquired for compensation by MOT.  Much of the Beam Alarm site was content-scraped from the old Yahoo group and Foreforums.  Anything copied from Foreforums was done so explicitly in violation of the user agreement (which states content belongs to the original poster and shall not be reproduced elsewhere) and I know for sure the posts and photos of ours were scraped without our permission, so I assume others (content from Foreforums duplicated on that site) were reproduced without permission as well.  They did not get nor do they have permission to reproduce content from the forum (or our personal blog) content there.

Michelle, I understand what your saying.  The article/post on the Beam Alarm site is the same topic and timeline as the links you posted in your reply but the content is different.  So I hope the article was properly posted.  The Beam Alarm site was always a great resource.

If George sent it to Barry, that's one thing.  Some people did.  But much of the information and photos were copied from the forum without the original poster's knowledge or permission.  I know that anything with my or Steve's name on it on that site was copied without our knowledge or permission, and I have noted there is a substantial amount.  We personally stopped posting tutorials and pulled many of ours because of this.

Even if it is worded differently, forum rules prohibit derivative works without the original author's permission.  This is to protect the original author.
