New Lithium batteries for the coach

just ordered. 2 server rack EG4 400amp 12V batteries that I will mount under the couch, and a multi-plus 2 that i will mount in the battery bay, my plan is to connect to the 12v posts under the white cover and then run from there to the multi plus. any help would be appreciated as far as what else is needed to get all this hooked up, also got an Orion B2B charger to get rid isolator,

Hi Mike,
I installed a Multiplus 2 also.  Here is the link Replacing ProSine 2.5 with Victron Multiplus
I guess you are removing current house batteries.  I like the EG4s but could only fit two in place of the 3 8D AGMs I have now.  So I will probably go with 8D size 400 ah lithiums.    Can you get closer to the Multiplus by putting the EG4s in the Battery Bay?  My couch is on a slide so that would not work for me.  I got most of my help from Roger Engdahl, google him on the forum for a wealth of information.  He is not active on here now though.

Thanks Herb I don't have a slide so I think having the battery under the couch will give a more stable temperature, since I leave the mini split running 24/7 it should be easier on them, have read a lot of Rodgers posts will reread them to gain a better understanding,

Question for those that have increased house battery amperage did you increase the wire size from the distribution points behind the the white cover in the storage bay to the boost switch and the ground point for the batteries it seems like Rodger did. I was thinking of doubling the ground with the 3/0 from the distributor point to the ground using the wire now going to the boost switch and adding 2 runs of 2/0 to the + side

Unless you are changing your boost solenoid to a higher amperage, why are you messing with the wiring? The only reason to change your battery wiring is if you plan on increasing the amperage going through them. For example, changing a 3000 watt inverter for a 5000 watt inverter will require you to change both the battery cables and the AC wiring to the breaker box. Adding more batteries, on the other hand just gives you more power to work with, but the items in your coach aren't using any more power than they were with fewer batteries.

I didn't change any wiring as the original batteries had over 750 AHR's the 600 amps of lithium just give me more usable amps.

Thanks my plan was to put the batteries under the couch, the more I think about it the original battery tray would be good also. I will mount the Multi-Plus were the Freedom 20 is now and run a new 6/3 wire from the transfer switch to the multiplus and back to the main breaker box any thoughts or guidance on this project would be greatly appreciated

That would be the ideal place. I believe the EG4 batteries have low temp protection, so you should be fine in the winter months. It does not, however, have a heating function. This could be added if you really need it (heating pad). I put my lithiums in the bay with the inverter as well as my charge controllers and dc/dc step down. That bay never seems to get below 70 with the aqua hot on.

Have finally got everything installed Multi-plus 2 with a Lynx distributor,Orion 30 B2B charger and BMV-712 shunt, and a digital multi control pad, with 2- 12volt 400ah EG4 batteries, I can tell after a 2 hour road trip to Roper lake I have a couple of issues on the way there the voltage on the sea level went from 14.2 after about 30 miles it started dropping went slowly down to 13.2 and then started back up to 14.2 again on the way home stayed at 14.2 till about 10 minutes out when it started to drop again went down to 13.9 ? Before the trip home I did pull the fuse in the trickle charger on the multi-plus so don't know if was a factored in the voltage staying constant for a longer period. In the driveway before I hooked up the shore power tried the mini split with just the batteries the shunt dropped available hours left from infinite down 14.4 hours before starting back stopped about 17 hours left. I think once I get all the bugs worked out it will be a good system

What is the sealevel attached to in order to receive voltage? You say you have a 712, what is the voltage on that and what parameters do you have on the 12/12 dc converter? You should also check voltage on the batteries. The only time I see over 14 volts is when the alternator is running. This is on an AGM battery, not lithium. The battery profile you have set up may be incorrect.

Were you able to run 6/3 to your multiplus? I'm thinking about doing that this summer but haven't come up with a decent route besides through the passthrough channel.


To add, on LiFePo batteries, full charge is 13.6v. 13.2 is around 70%. If you're seeing over 14v, it is charging. If you're pulling amperage instead of charging, you are likely to drop below 13.6v and possibly to 13.2v. You're better off charging the batteries to 100% and seeing what happens while driving.

How long will your batteries run the minsplsit?

Nice clean install. Should produce lots of power. I installed my battery bank in the same location. Added heating pads because they don't have low temp protection. When temps drop into low 20s and high teens the batteries gradually cool down to about 8 or 9c, which is fine. Solar charger won't try to charge them below 5c but the Xantrex will if in charge mode.

Have not been able to find what the sealevel is reading from weird that it doesn't fit any of the other voltages house shows 13.8 start shows 12.9 at rest, the Orion I have set to 14 volt on charge and 13.5 on float
Did run the 6/3 wire and put loom over the last 10 feet into the box at the foot of the bed also ran a 4/0 from the Lynx to the ground lug in the back and ran a wire from the trickle charger to to pos post in the back. Helps. That I pulled the dash A/C lines gave a lot more room, ran the 6/3 into a junction box then ran wire from SO cable from box thru conduit to Multiplus

Not really sure how long the mini split will really run it was drawing around 600 watts after it settled down

Did a draw down test on the batteries yesterday started about 8 running the mini split and a fan  and the refrigerator, ran the mini split on both heat and A/C  going to to about 7  at around 3 I turned the fan up on high, it was interesting to watch the fluctuations for the the time left and the watts  used as the inverter on the mini split did it's thing, I am truly impressed by how long the batteries lasted, have not been outside this am to see how the recharge went

That seems like a lot of watts for a long time.  Nice job  .
Mine runs about an Hr .
Same pioneer 12000
