Chassis battery door unlocked

I came across this oddity the other day.  The door lock for the chassis batteries on my 2002 U320 was wired to not lock.  Is there a reason to always allow ready access to the chassis batteries? Anyone else doing this?

Thanks

If the batteries were Dead, and you needed to jump start or charge the batteries, You would not be able to open the locked cabinet door with the electrical system...  ^.^d

But you should be able with the key.

It only has a key with no remote.  Sounds like it is not normal.  I'll unwire it and try the key.

I noticed that one day also when I had left my coach at MOT to have new windshield installed.  After I got it back I went to open battery compartment, it was locked, went and hit the unlock button and compartment did not unlock.  Had to find key and unlock. Then noticed it was not set up to lock and unlock with all of the other compartments.

My battery compartment can only be locked with a key.

I removed the wire and the lock works just fine.  Now that compartment is locked.
