Air purge fuel filter

So this is my new 1999 U320 with M11 and I have this fuel filter system. I don't trust it and wondering what some of you have done with it. I believe it could leak some air and cause hard starting and some of you recommended replacing the o rings, however I would like to replace more than that. Does any one know exactly how it works and what your options are about it. I'm referring the the clear plastic one on the right. It moves fuel through it when I push the air purge button. Thanks

I replaced mine with the Fass System which pumps fuel steadily which makes it easier on the Cummins
fuel pump and it also takes all the air out of the fuel. Others have used the Raycor fuel filter and I'm sure
someone will mention it.

That filter can be problematic but if properly cared for will do it's job. Some rather than feeding it O rings and  have replaced it with a newer unit. One other filter that is popular is the DAVCO 382 as a replacement. What ever you chose make sure that you can get replacement filter elements on the road and is available at most truck stops or part stores.

We are still running the original OEM filter system, with no issues thus far.

I would not have changed mine out except I wanted the Fass System. As Mike said if maintained they work fine and
and mine did.

Why throw away the baby with the bath water? I have used the factory system on my Monaco and now the Foretravel without any issues other than changing the o-rings when removing the plastic filter which is washable by the way. My Monaco was a '96 and between it an the '99 17 years still working fine. I believe all the problems others have had were not changing the o-rings or bad fuel lines.

Ours worked fine too, it was still kicking without issues when I sold the rig. I pre-emptively replaced the o-rings when I purchased the coach.

So I like being able to see what's in the screen. Visual indications are easy. Full of algae, you get to see it. It is cleanable by reverse flow. Mine was problematic till I replaced the screen and ordered new orings. The fuel purge works and the water purge is nice and functional. Has been effortless after the learning curve. I still agree with Peter the FASS system is were I eventually will end up. I must admit im now sure that replacing my fuel lines resolved my air admittance issues. These systems operate under a vacuum and any leaks will be unseen do to the leaks going into the system.

Ours has worked fine also and it's 20 years old! Proper maintenance should keep it working as it should. But if it concerns you, go ahead and change it.

Sorry for the late reply (just saw this).  I went through this five years ago and rather than try to reconstruct what I wrote, I will just copy and paste:

"After a lot o confusion, due somewhat to the beamalarm info, I was able to order the correct primary fuel filter assembly.  Here is the issue:  beamalarm recommended the Racor 12963 retrofit kit to replace the obsolete 90s1230 (or Winn 200200).  When searching the retrofit kit, I found different part suppliers that showed photos that resembled the original with plastic pre-filter.  On recommendation from members I was told the correct upgrade was Racor 790r30, which I had difficulty finding (not in ebay or Amazon).  I finally found info from Diesel Direct.  I looked up the 12963 kit then talked to a parts person about mailing info.  She asked if I had a motorhome and if the problem was leaking.  When I told her that was the case, she said the 12963 would not help, but suggested the 790r30.  I ended up ordering that on a two day USPS option.  Not to be sexist, I've found that most women will turn me over to a guy whenever I get the least bit technical.  I was very impressed with this lady who seemed to be very familiar with the parts discussed.  I'm relaying this, so hopefully, others won't go down the same "rabbit holes" I've been through.  It is possible that I misunderstood the info in the beam alarm page, but it was confusing to me; hopefully they will clarify or at least make some distinctions between the 12963 and 790r30."

So far it has worked well and I'm about to replace the filter.  Good luck.

Does anybody know where to get the correct o-rings and what the part number would be? Am I correct in assuming everyone is referring to the o-rings for the clear sight filter are the issue or are there others that need to be replaced too?

114 and 208 should be the correct orings. The durometer, I'm not sure of. I have some 70A durometer of each.

If it's still working and you still want to get rid of it, my father is looking for one as his purge is no longer working.
If you would like to keep it, take the plastic pre filter off and check for warping where the o rings go. If there is warping, you'll never get a proper seal. You'll need a new pre filter, which may be difficult to find these days. I ordered two in Feb 2023 and I may have gotten the last two. Once I can't find them anymore when I need them, I will replace the system.
