Roof a/c

2003 295u 36

The main air conditioner is not cooling as it should. It is the original. Now I am wondering if replacing freon or replacing the whole unit is the betyer way to go. Any sughestions would be appreciated.

I'd have it serviced and see if that works. If it doesn't I'd replace it.

If compressor is bad or it needs freon, Just need to replace unit. 

Need to go and remove air filter and check to make sure coils are clean.

Ron, Had my local residential ac guy come by and he used a special tap he soldered on the line to fill freon. Front ac was low rear was ok. Now works great. This tip came from Dsd, Thanks again Scott. Jim.

Jim, That is a good idea. Wonder where a leak is. But now more could be added anytime. Could your ac guy add the tap without losing refrigerant ?

Barry, I figured after 20 years the leak would be too small to detect but it was a bit low. Yes the taps can be soldered on without losing any freon. Good ac guy will stock both size taps, different size tubing.

Thanks Jim & Dona, I now see how line piercing valves. Great simple idea to install before replacing a problematic a/c unit. Even if your slow leak shows up, you can recharge.
