Emission notification

Last two trips through the mountains In Tennessee I get an emission notice on the dash.  First time it went out in a couple days before I could take it in.  Happened again on this trip.  Seems to run fine and only comes on when we hit the big climbs.

I get that message every once in a while.  It stays for a few seconds and then goes away.  Been happening for last 35+k miles.  Original owner said he had asked what it means but no one knows.

Most likely related to DEF, Unlikely it will ever cause an issue.

Unless it's a Shaw or Errecinque DEF head on a newer FT with a Spartan chassis...

It's possibly just an alert that it's doing a regen, especially if it clears on its own.
That's true and my reply could be misleading. DEF can show notifications at nothing and only doing so in a hard pull reminds me of one I had but it was on a Freightliner chassis.

I am not getting any codes, just this message for a while and then it goes away.  It is not logging any message. At least on mine

When it does a regen it is a different message.  I don't remember what is it but you know it is a regen message.  Something about soot

On my 2015IH, blue DEF messages are Ok, "REGEN" "SOOT" etc.--yellow ones, not so much.  This winter I had what I thought were major DEF issues, only to find that a poorly routed power cable conduit to the DEF head had gotten in contact with the DPC chamber--melted the conduit jacket and damaged the wires inside [low voltage?].  Re-spliced the wires--problem solve.

I seem to have the same issue as Turbjack describes.  It started with going off and on, now seems to come on and stay on until we have stopped.  No fault codes showing on the dash.  I won't be leaving here until the  10th, then back through the mountains again.

When the engine wants to do a regen and engine is at low rpm, (maybe 800) I get a message, and don't remember what it says. Then once the RPM is up  for a while the message changes making me think it is doing a regen.  If I slow down again while it is still doing a regen the message changes back to first one.  After a while which seems like a long time all of the messages will go away.  I will pay more attention next time it does it.  Something in one of the message it says soot.

When I did the scan while parked nothing showed up.  When driving I got the following when doing the diagnostics
ACTIVE FAULTS
Code      Description
102 17    Boost pressure /low

further update;
The Emissions alert came on about KY, TN state line on the way to Conyars, GA where we were parked for about a week and half alert was on when we headed home and stayed on until about Lexington, KY.  I stopped for fuel and added injector cleaner/fuel conditioner after fill up.  About 100 mi later the Emissions alert went out.  Only time will tell if it was a coincidence or not.

Boost pressure low would be an emissions issue and performance. I would look it over hands on close for a failed intake hose or big intake leak. Is it down on power? Other half of the equation is boost control. Waste gate operation.

CAC (Charge Air Cooler) leak is another potential for "loss of boost".

Absolutely start by going over every inch of intake system from turbo to CAC to intake manifold and the hose from intake manifold to air compressor.

What are your boost levels.  I wish I remember what mine are since I have gone a while not being in it.  I want to say it has been 0 -30+ but most times in the 20's

Since Old Scout is on a trip he might remember what he is seeing.

Boost seems to vary from 5# on flat to no grade steady throttle to 33# on climbs with acceleration/maintaining speed.  I did notice it seemed like it wasn't climbing as well.

That seem normal.  When was air filter changed. That motor moves a lot of air.

Asked another way, what is your AIR FILTER MINDER reading?

How old is the air filter?

I replaced the air filter last July.  I will check the Air Filter Minder when I get home but only put on about 5,000 mi since air filter change

I then don't think that is the problem.

My engine has a Cummins TRP of T2258   ISX15 CM2350 MY13 TURBOCHARGER AND VGT ACTUATOR TRP FOR OUT OF WARRANTY FAILURES

Maybe that is what is happening.

When your emission light goes out does the active code go away also?  It the Silverleaf logging the code? I have looked at my history and I do not show any events except for a long while ago.

Yup, both max boost and recent air filter replacement look good.

Boost Pressure Sensor issue? Start by verifying that its connection to the engine wiring loom is clean and tight.
