Bose PSA

I sent my Bose unit into Sharpless Jones to get it rebuilt.  When it came back, there was no sound.  I talked with him and it appears that my sub woofer unit is bad.  He mentioned that the sub woofer was being recalled due to an overheating issue that had caused some fires.
I looked up the recall on the Bose page and sure enough it is recalled and they will fix the unit or give a discount on another product.  In Bose's words if the sub woofer was made before 2006 it should be unplugged immediately.
Just thought I'd spread the word.

I traded my defective subwoofer for half off a new Bose sound bar. If anyone else is considering doing the same, know that the new Bose sound bar has been more trouble than it is worth. Their smartphone app does not work at all like it is supposed to, and the Bluetooth sound bar won't stay paired with the rest of our setup. I have never had a Bluetooth device that works as poorly as this sound bar.

My Sub/amplifier would stop working and the problem always was a blown internal fuse. Its a simple fix after you figure out how to open up the sub.
I finally relocated the fuse to be on the exterior of the sub for a simple check or replacement.
No problems since.

Moved to Discussions and bumped for visibility. 

Now to find a suitable replacement for the Bose Lifestyle 30 system that's in our coach.

I wonder if mine was done already or not.  What page did you find this on, on the Bose website?  I couldn't find any recall info looking briefly...

The recall was announced July 2023.  If you've had the coach since then and haven't done this, unplug the Acoustimass module - it's a fire hazard.

We sent our Bose unit in for the recalled repair, it's easy and they send you the box to return it in and shipping is paid both ways.
Bought a new (reconditioned) LS 30 unit from Sharpless Jones and were given credit for our old unit.
We like the bluetooth part they added. If we really want to play a CD we just pop it into the DVD/CD player, it's also routed through the Bose as is the TV.
Everything works and sounds as it should now with no worries about fires and such.
We decided to keep the Bose system b/c we use the rear (bedroom) part quite often.

Pulled mine out today and it's not the Acoustimass system included in the recall, it's the PS3-2-1, so back out to reinstall I go.  :)  I believe this was the stock system from 2003.

Better safe than sorry!  Ours is (was) the Lifestyle 30 series II system and the serial number for the acoustimass was in the recall.  Since ours had a couple of issues anyway, we opted to get a used newer system via eBay that supports the existing cool little Jewel Cube speakers and has HDMI.  It only means running a new sub-to-media console cable from under the sofa to the cabinet above the passenger-side windshield :P

V35.  It supports the existing Jewel Cube speakers the original Lifestyle V30 series II had.  It did come with a different, larger-coned center speaker which needed a mounting tweak if you wanted to swap that one out.  It also has BoseLink to support the bedroom speakers as the second zone, although we need to read up some more to figure out how to set that up (might need an expansion remote).  Right now our bedroom speakers play the same feed as the main ones.

The V25 and T-series of the same era, while similar and cheaper don't appear to support Jewel Cube speakers, only the single-piece Cube.

535 is newer, and 535 series III uses something different than BoseLink for "rooming".  It runs 40-50% more expensive.  I seem to recall those went to a Jewel Cube II.

Steve just finished the swap out late yesterday, so we haven't completed the official system setup.  It uses the TV to display the various setup menus - there's no screen or display on the control center (and it's media-less.  No disc player, just AM/FM radio.)  The remote has a small, single line display.

Note that the Acoustimass module (PSIII) used in the V35 and 535 is about 1/4" wider than the original, plus Steve added thin "feet" to its side to protect it and the edge of its bezel from the floor.  The sofa's jackknife mechanism clears it, but is closer.  Also, the original Lifestyle 30 speaker cable connections to the AM aren't individually color coded like they are on later models, so be sure to label them before swapping things out.
