Hydraulic or water pump question

The shaft on the pulley of water pump belt broke and moved out. Can you help identify this part? The mechanic says he is having difficulty finding the part he needs to fix or replace it.

Correct, this is the hydraulic pump.  Not the water pump.

Is this the shaft that broke or did the water pump shaft break?

If water pump shaft, why does he want to do anything with the pump pulley?  Is it a belt alignment issue???

Looks like there are bolts on the back of the pulley, have him remove the pulley and look for a part number.

Ok. Do you know if this is a fairly simple fix? I know that the pump will have to be replaced and not just repaired because of the shaft.

Removing the pulley should be simple if he knows how the pulley is attached to the shaft.  Brute force is not the answer.

Sadly, has been over 25 years since I have had to remove that pulley, so don't remember what to loosen to remove it, but once "discovered", was very easy.

You may not need to replace the pump...IF it is the same model as the pump on our '93 U280.  You may be able to replace the shaft.  See the link below for a report on my rebuild of our V10 hydraulic pump.  It's an old thread so I hope the links to parts sources are still good.

To remove the pulley from the shaft there are bolt holes on the face of the pulley close to the shaft, I think that they are 1/4 inch diameter. Screw in the bolts, think there are 2 holes. As you screw in the bolts it pushes the center of the pulley back which releases the cone that is clamping the pulley to the shaft.

Thank you for all the advice! We did not fix it ourselves. We had Coachnet tow it to TLC Fleet Service in Albuquerque. We were stuck on the road and I'm not a mechanic. These guys are really good, and they actually read the Foreforums for help in fixing our coach. They ended up replacing the pump assembly and installing a new U-Joint after the tow. Cost about two FT bucks total. Kudos to Coachnet for sending a tow company that knows what they're doing, and for suggesting TLC. We didn't like spending 8 extra days in ABQ because we were on our way to a job and not vacationing, but they got it done in good time.
