J1939 Port and Bluefire

Does the Deuch 9 pin plug on the 2003 U320 report J1939 data or only J1708?  Trying to set up Bluefire and fails data on J1939.  So is this data available on 2003 or is my adapter FUBAR?  I get fuel data on the little display on the dash.  Others have had their dash shared on the website that include lots more data than what I am getting.

9 pin should support J1939 and 2003 cummins engine should support it too. Below is from the bluefire site, you can try J1708 and see what shows up.

If the data shows NA then the data is not being transmitted by the ECMs. The 9-pin Adapters can connect to both the J1939 (newer) data bus and the J1708 (older) data bus. The 6-pin Adapters only connect to the older J1708 data bus. So if you have a 9-pin Adapter, you'll want to see what data is available from both data buses. The way to do this is to do the following:

Select J1939 from Settings/Connect to a J1939 Data Bus.
Exit and restart the App.
Connect the Adapter.
Start your engine.
View the Drive and Repair pages. Might want to take a screen shot of them.
De-select J1939 and select J1708 from Settings/Connect to a J1708 Data Bus.
Exit and restart the App (this will clear out all J1939 data).
Connect the Adapter.
View the Drive and Repair pages again.
Compare the data from J1939 and J1708.
If there is data you need from both, select them both, otherwise only select the one you need.

Yes, I have read all the install data from Bluefire but when I test the adapter it fails the J1939 data test.  It gets J1708 data but that is very limited.  Since 2002 and 2003 were transition years for J1939 implementation, I am curious if the adapter fails because there is no J1939 data.

I can tell you that my 2002 J1939 was providing data to Bluefire.  Ever since I've had to update the app I've had trouble with it and haven't been able to get it sorted out.

The 9 pin is supposed to indicate that it supports J1939, 6 pin is just J1708. Green 9 pin is supposed to be 500k J1939.  But there is no one enforcing the SAE standards or certifying that everything works per the standard, so your mileage may vary.

Had to upgrade my ap as well, now it doesnt work. Havent had time to monkey with it

Bumping this topic as we're looking at whether to use the VMSpc that came with the coach (need to find a downlevel Windows 10 tablet?) or go Bluefire. 

Has the Bluefire issue been resolved since the last post (and is Bluefire appropriate for a 2000 ISM)?

I am nowhere near as tech savvy as Steve.  I did call Bluefire once and did get ahold of them.  Honestly whatever they advised me to do was above my pay grade so I lost interest.  I hope someday they get it sorted out because for the short period of time that my bluefire worked, I really liked it.  The gauge presentation was great and the data was excellent.  The whole creating a dashboard process was so cumbersome and such a pita that i just downloaded a simple dash from someone else.  It was OK but I would have liked to customize it but I definitely did not have the patience to learn that whole process.  I don't know why Bluefire doesn't have a variety of dash templates preloaded so you can just use that as a default.  Just before my trip to Colorado this year I bought the Scangauge D and I love it!  No programming, no set up, no hassle.  Just plug it in and there's the data.  You can select four datapoints to display simultaneously.  It's compact and discreet.  Sits right above my back up monitor.  I have it set to display engine temp, trans temp, oil pressure and current speed.  These are what I consider to be the most critical functions.  Also my dash gauges are so inaccurate and hard to read.  My oil pressure gauge consistently reads low by at least 10 psi which can be very disconcerting at a stoplight.  My engine and trans temps consistently read at least 10 degrees high.  Just the peace of mind that the Scangauge has given me was worth the price of admission.  Steve I suspect that you would be able to figure out how to get the Bluefire to work for you unless the current update was defective in which case the product would be complete junk.

Michelle,  We did get Bluefire working with all the data that I was looking for (dont know if it is just 1708 or 1939).  I can share the configuration if you go with Bluefire.  If you have VMSpc just get a cheap tablet and use that.  Roger can help getting everything working and it is way easier than configuring Bluefire.  Would have gone that route but Roger had sold the last one he had. I picked up a Galaxy Tab A for $10 and use it for navigation and Sirius Xm while on the road and an Apple Ipad for the Bluefire.

I've been using an iPad and splitting the screen like this.  Works well for me and with a glance I can see the things I need to see.

I sent my BlueFire back for an update for $10 a while back.  It is currently prompting me to do so update again but have answered no and bypassing to main screen.

Set levels for each data point
Green= good
Orange=watch
Red= concerned
