Kool-o-Matic inside cover needed [was Fantastic Vent Cover]

I did a search but my desk top is acting whacky and changes pages on it on before I can read. I need a fantastic vent cover for the fan in the kitchen. Can someone tell me of a good source? I may have this post in the wrong category, I don't know. I don't remember seeing such in Quartzite in the past but it's impossible to see everything there. It's the cover on the inside of the coach.

31-1930 Dometic K1020-19 Fan-Tastic Replacement Dome Lid For RV Roof Vents - Smoke
 1 $45.16 $45.16

  Subtotal:  $45.16
  State Tax:  $4.63
  Shipping Cost:  $10.99
  Grand Total:  $60.7

Best price I found.  I found that I did not need it as our fan cover had a cover over the cover.  Did not realize this as have had many Fantastic fans before but never saw one with an over cover.  Since I don't need it I'll sell it for $50 delivered.

I'm sure one of the RV dealers in Quartzsite will have that replacement cover. Also a quick search on Amazon shows that they are available.

I need the one on the inside Jerre. I didn't look hard last year Doug but will look closer this year. 2 corners are broke on mine, otherwise not in bad shape for its age. I tried to mend it with fiberglass epoxy but that's not working so well.

Our coaches didn't come from the factory with a Fantastic fan they came with a Kool-o-matic. I'm thinking you're talking about the inside cover now? If so I think they are no longer available, have heard that some are being 3D printed.

Well crap. It is the inside cover I need. It slides in and out of the "holder".

Yep, I have thin magnetic tape on the mating surfaces which helps hold it in place, still flies off sometimes.

Thanks.... I will come up with something for a patch here. Being just 2 corners maybe I wont trash it up too bad.

I patched mine for a while but ultimately build a new one out of wood.

That looks store bought John but I'm no hand with wood. It is a good idea but quiet the reach for a non carpenter.

Hey Dub,

Our original plastic inside cover is getting super fragile, but it still slides into the metal grooves and stays up securely.  We keep it in place all the time unless we need to use the fan.  Every time I go to remove it I think "This is the time it will finally disintegrate".

Since the grooves that support our cover are metal and in good condition, I have considered making a replacement cover out of a thin sheet of aluminum cut to the proper size to slide into the grooves.  Running a strip of thin stick-on foam insulation around the edge would help it seal better.  Paint it white to match ceiling.  Might need some kind of small knob in the center to give a hand hold for removing and installing.

So far, it's just been day dreaming on my part and no actual fabrication...

Here's a thread about the 3D printed Kool-O-Matic inside cover.

That's another viable notion Chuck. Mine like yours is probably original and time takes some give out of the plastic. I don't know how mine isn't destroyed with some of the falls it's taken.

My original cover also cracked along the edges and became unusable. For a while I used two magnetic air register covers (overlapping a bit) to cover the opening. Recently, I added a 3/4" piece of foam board with a couple extra magnets embedded in two edges to provide some extra insulation.

Heck, I gave one away this summer to Triple Nickle. He needed one. I had a spare. So he got it.
Ours came with the coach and had two magnetic strips along the edges in addition to the two retainer bent keepers.

Find the reference to the member with a son in law (I think) that has the pattern and can 3D print you one up. Wonderful job and is made slightly thicker than the OEM. Picture attached.

Dub;  you might do a search on cup holders here to find the gentleman that has the 3D printer!  He does a fantastic job and a fair price.  Good luck as we take great care installing and removing ours!

On our U240, I drilled a 5/16 hole in the center of the cover and metal grill.  I installed a short SS bolt pointed down through the metal grill and tightened with a nut on the bottom side.  The bolt threads extended down beyond the nut maybe a 1/2".  The cover could then be installed and was held in place with a wing nut and white plastic fender washer.  I was not crazy about how it would look, but hadly gave it a thought other than being glad that it was secure. Not very elegant, but easy, cheap and effective. Attached is the best pic I could find.

I may have gotten the idea from you :)
I just remember the PO saying to take the cover off when moving so it doesn't break because they were NLA.
