Bed gas struts 98 u295

Has anyone increased the strength of their bed gas struts  I ordered two 60# 's but that was actually weaker So I order  two 120#'s  Not sure if that will make lifting more difficult  Original struts won't hold the bed  I don't think mattress weight has been changed

Look for posts that had to use a bigger hinge when using heavier struts.

FWIW, the bed struts are the same model as the struts for the engine hatch.

I tried the 120lb struts but ended up getting 80lb struts cause they made the bed difficult to lift. No issues with the 80lb ones. As stated, check your mounts including the multiple screw downs at the head of the bed to make sure they are secure. I did not when I originally put the 120s on and the bed screws came out and the bed snapped forward. Ended up up having to use sturdier screws and a lot more of them

One other idea you might think about,
Several of us have gave up on those struts and replaced them with 12VDC linear actuators.

Here is a link to a post where Saddlesore installed. his Ordered new bed, May need to Add 2nd set of Gas lift rams for bed pedestal?

Here is some pics. of what I did. I have one on each side and they are 16" long. I pic up 12vdc from the fuse panel at the base of the bed. I have each actuator on a raise/lower switch rather than 1 switch for both. This has worked out better for me. I didn't raise the bed for pics. but will if you think they will help you.

For those still using gas struts to hold bed up, good idea to also use a pvc pipe to keep bed up. Use pvc tee at ends. This is for safety just like steep bars used under coach. Bed falling on person leaning in could be problematic. Use something also on lift up engine door for similar reasons. Some use carabiner to lock door up.
