Transmission

On the way to Longview, Texas to Stewart Stevenson for transmission service.  It looks like the rear seal is leaking.

I don't know how far you are driving to reach Longview but this is something to consider, The service writer may or may not tell you that if their tech is called out for a field service emergency by one of their customers that they have an agreement with then your appointment wont be considered. The service writer did "warn" me of this possibility but living only 120 miles from there I was willing to risk it. I drove to Shreveport La the afternoon before my appointment to spend the night so I wouldn't have to get up so early to leave for my 7:30 appointment the next morning, Shreveport is near Longview... 4:00 that afternoon the service writer called and cancelled my appointment for the next morning because the tech had been called out for a field emergency... I held my toung because I had been advised of the possibility. I called Stevenson in Shreveport and luckily they could get me in the next morning.... Longview may have a number of people that will change your seal, I don't know but if you are driving a long distance, I would have a conversation with the service writer to be sure someone will be there to do your work..

I only had to drive from Sunnyvale whick is just a little over a hour away. No appointment just dropping off so they could fit it in.

Ken,

When you figure out when you will be back in town drop us a PM as we might be able to hook up for lunch. If you will need a camp spot we might be able to help you find a good spot for the night.

Just heard from S&S that the transmission seal is ok. The tech said was coming from something higher up. Really cannot see from the bed because it is way more forward. I cannot visualize what is there. Must be a hose?

Are you sure it's trans fluid? or engine oil.

Tech is not sure. Possibly hydraulic fluid for power steer hose e that runs to the chase going to front end?

Just got call from S&S that the leak is from the big air compressor on back of engine. Gave ok to continue, said couple days for it to come in from Indiana. Oh well just a few coach bucks. Really can complain since it is is 34 years old.

If it is a leak what's coming from Indiana a new compressor?

If there is no core charge one of us may want to try and rebuild it. Now is the time to install a new D-2 and service the drier.

New air compressor in and working. On trip now thru Florida the oil catch can is blowing oil out of the breather. It is coming from the hose on drivers side that goes up into the side of the block. Th e hose is wet at the fitting on can. Wonder if it has something to do with new compressor? Coach is running great no problems that I can tell in performance. Tried to drain can but nothing comes out. I thank it is full of old oil that has dried out over 30+ years. Now need to find a way to dissolve curd.

Think you may need to check the crankcase pressure,may have excessive blowby,what engine oil are you using and could you have too much oil.The hose on the block is for fumes not oil,take the hose off and clean it out,if it was'nt doing the blowing before the new compressor then that may be the problem.

Maybe some of the 2 stroke Detroit guys will chime in. The 92s have what we used to call snot boxes that need to drained every so often due to blow by. Been a looong time early 70s since I fooled with 2 stroke Detroits, turning diesel fuel into noise. 😎

Oil level is fine and using delo 100 40wt.
