ORED wedge brakes?

My 88 has wedge rear brakes. I've had the driver side drum off at least 3 times in 40k miles to service the adjusters and an air pancake .  It's like a lot of new things.  When you first start out , you know a lot.
Well recently the park brake allows too much movement. Leading me to think that the brakes are out of adjustment again.  Jack it up and the tire spins free.  Brake on.
Pop the 100# drum off and measure the shoes vs the drum. I have about .200 gap.
The adjusters are perfect , greased , turn free. It acts like the adjusters are turning the wrong way on application. Thinking that maybe they had been swapped top to bottom. I checked closer and they are the same. Both should turn the wheel , making the brake tighter .
Yesterday I figured out how to adjust with the drum on. Remove the air line that runs a rt the back and work a small spoon until the park brake drags.  , air up the system , turn park brake off and keep adjusting until you get a wee bit of drags.
Set park brake and see if it works better . It does.
I removed the auto adjusters.
I will adjust when the park brake fails to grab and the pedal goes too far.
Has anyone else serviced these and has any insight ?
I suspect that I'm the only one with this system still running
. As. Most of you have cam drums or disc .
