2000-320-42 [Deer strike collision repair]

Our coach had a deer decide to cross the road. I have been trying to decide if, since we have decals, to go back traditional like the factory or do the euro style headlights. I'm a traditional person and don't drive at night. I like less decals and more white paint.
Sid Andersen, a fellow Foretravel owner, and fiberglass guru, did the work. We are very pleased. He has been doing fiberglass and painting all his life.

Did the deer have insurance?

Didn't a deer make contact a while back and thus is a new encounter?

I would opt for the very best headlight possible. We really try to avoid driving at night also..  but, for that rare occasion that life happens and you need those lights....

In 2020 I decided that it might be necessary to drive at night under certain conditions. The headlights Foretravel used on our 1995 U320 were mounted at the minimum legal height and were virtually useless. I replaced them with LED units mounted at the appropriate height. The difference is amazing and it's now safe to drive at night if needed. I would *never* want to go back to the original headlight configuration!

At Quartzsite, I saw a couple of FTs with round headlights installed above the factory lights.  I think the original lights were covered or painted.  I really liked the look, and would have done the same by now, if our coach had not come to us with a conversion.

Maybe someone will post a photo.

Robert,

The very hard to find Morimoto be-level (hi/low beam) laser LED fixture produces unbelievably brilliant light. They come 2 head lights per box - a pair. However, they are very hard to find either from the manufacturer ) not on their website so call them) or online sources. Worth researching for though. They were the rated as the best brand/model on uTube review last year.

Here's one on eBAy.

Here is a picture of my headlight conversion I did before before I painted it. The semi lights work great.

" Gee, Ernie, that repair looks great"
Said no forum member. Sorry I posted it

I'm sorry your feelings were hurt. It just doesn't seem to me to be a good idea to miss the opportunity to upgrade an inadequate headlight design. Even if one has no plans to drive at night I think it's wise to have that ability if needed.

Ernie I respect the capability what was broken. I think the glass work looks great. If you're happy that is all that matters

That looks really amazing. The before and after is just mind blowing. Where does Sid work out of? I need some work done to my new one.

Ernie,

Several members have pointed out that I have you confused with Rudy.  I can only claim it was late last night.  But the sentiment still holds.  I appreciate your and his contributions to the Forum and would hate to lose you.

I didn't appreciate that one of the two photos was after the work was completed. That is great work!

I thought it was what the front end looked like prior to the deer impact and the 2nd picture being part way through the repair.

I really like mine also but getting hard to find. Would be better if they were higher off the ground. At the original location they are almost projecting straight out. I always notice the cut off line on the side of the road. They have outstanding qualities but nobody wants to spend $400 for light bulbs. The clear light lenses are a must have to delete the prisms. They are not Laser beams but the low beam will compete with the 10K$ Laser beam headlights in Europe. The Hi beams really work well but are much less in comparison to 10k$ laser beam headlights.  Yet they are the best headlights of everything I own. The Hi beam is too bright to be DOT in America so you need to be considerate to others. Ive used now for about three years

I have personally seen Scott's lights in action and they are incredible!  Thinking on putting those on the front of our new to us truck!  We have lots of deer up in those TN hills and they are always trying to commit suicide by truck!

Ernie, your fix looks great!  That guy did a great job!
