Meritor brake caliper bushings

Has any one had to replace the meritor air caliper bushings? I have quite a bit of play when the emergency brake is released on the caliper pins. I see that meritor has a bushing rebuild kit but I would think the would last a lot longer than 135k on the u320 coach. Just curious to see if this has been a common service. It is quite a big job.

Not sure what you mean by play, the pads slide on the pins, are the pads loose or have play, maybe the pins are worn and just need replacement,Meritor probably has a manual on replacing bushings, helped rebuild rear calipers a couple of years ago and the bushings were ok.

When I last checked my pins there was some play in the right front wheel caliper bushings. Not serious enough to replace at the time as I didn't have the parts on hand. I now have 8 new pins and 16 new bushings in stock so next time I check brakes I will replace what is necessary. The bushings are not going to be that hard to replace if you have the tools.

Here is a copy of the 4M brake book that is a must read. (There is a copy somewhere here on the Forum but can't link to it today) If you look at page 10 it will give you the +/- tolerances and where to measure.

Yes I have replaced some but at that mileage I would doubt yours are bad.

Max ID 1.120" New ID 1.012". This leaves a wear tolerance to .108" this is a lot IMO. That's over a 1/10 inch wear not to mention any wear on the pins although doubtful.  At least you wouldnt have to worry about them dragging at that wear point.
