Power Tech PTS MH-10FTRR Issues and Manual

Hello to all. I did some searching on here for topics but i haven't quite found what I'm looking for. I'm having issues with my Power Tech MH-10FTRR generator in my 1996 U320. A few months ago I changed the oil, the oil filter, the fuel filter, and the air filter and not too long after this is would run for a few minutes then shut down. Now it no longer even starts. I have read numerous posts on here to get some ideas, but while I continue to troubleshoot on my own i wonder if anyone can help with the following:

1) Can anyone recommend a tech to work on this anywhere within a few hours drive from Marianna Florida? I have been unable to locate anyone.

2) Can anyone provide a GOOD copy of the manual for this model? The manual i have in my FT binder has completely worthless photos, and not much information on troubleshooting or parts lists.

Maybe you have an air lock in the fuel. Does the 12 volt pump mounted on the generator work? You can disconnect the fuel line after the fuel pump and see if it pumps any fuel. How much fuel in the tank?  Sounds to me like a fuel problem.

During that time frame they used a couple of engines. Power tech used Isuzu and Kubota. It would help troubleshoot which engine your generator has if it more that just a fuel problem like mentioned above.

Thanks for the replies.

1) It is a Kubota. Photos attached of front and the PT label, if this also helps.
2) I did check the fuel flow from the pump a few months ago when the issue began. it was flowing fine out of the pump. The tank is full. I have not checked the pump again since, and i need to also do the test of disconnecting from the fuel tank and putting a fuel line directly from a fuel can to the pump to see if that works.
3) Paul Yasbeck in Leesburg is a possibility. 4 hours drive, but if that's what i have to do that's what i have to do. Do you have contact info for him?

Do any of you have a service manual, or a clear version of the owners manual? The PT website doesn't have one listed for this model, and PT never answers the phone or returns voicemails.

Thanks for the number for Paul. i called but it says "the person you are trying to reach is not accepting calls at this time". if anyone has another number for him, or knows anyone else in Central FL, North FL, SW Georgia, Southern Alabama, etc. around Marianna Florida that would be very helpful.

When this issue initially began i did call Jeff at PT, and spoke to him and he gave me some things to try. but he had very little patience and i have never been able to get in touch with him again since. i have called multiple times and left messages and no one from PT ever returns my calls. is the 352-435-4416 number listed on the PT website the number you use for him? i have not emailed him about this, but i will do so using the email listed on the PT website.

If anyone has a manual and/or more insight it would be greatly appreciated.

@kimosabe99. thanks for the new number, but also no good.

Anyone else have a number for Paul or anyone in my region? Doesn't even need to be an RV tech, just someone who knows diesels and can work on the generator. I have yet to locate anyone local to me.

Paul sold his place in Leesburg and is now working out on his farm.  He does do some service, but not sure on how often.  He is in the process of building another shop now.  Not sure what is going on with Jeff at Power Tech.  He has always been very helpful.  You could have an issue with the control box on the top of the engine.  They do go out and need to be replaced.

Could be low oil pressure sensor, coolant temp sensor located on the back of the motor. You have to pull the bottom pan off an slide the generator out to get to them. I think but not sure they are normally closed providing a path to ground. Could be fuel shutoff solenoid should have power to it when trying to start. I'm assuming it turns over but no start. There is a latching relay in the control box as well. When mine was doing that it ended up being the ES52 control the one with the lights in it.
With all that said if you slid the generator out to service it could a fuel line have gotten pinched?

Thank you all for the continued assistance. i have been rather busy since i last replied. i will do some more troubleshooting with these in mind and feedback. Thanks for the service list from FT. i didn't think to check their website. seems obvious, just didn't cross my mind since my coach is so old.

OK, so i have finally determined that i had air lock. I feel kind of stupid and amateur, but we all need to learn sometime. got all of the air out of the system and went straight from a 5 gallon fuel can to the fuel pump on the generator with a short piece of new hose and it fired up and runs just fine. when i connect back to the main line from the fuel tank no dice, and i get nothing but sputters and air coming out when i bleed. this leads to the logical conclusion there is a crack or something wrong with the line between the main tank and the fuel pump on the generator.

does anyone have any suggestions or wisdom on replacing this line? it looks like it may be easy enough to attach a new run of line to the old one and carefully fish it through from one end to the other. i will run it around the outside of the coach first to make sure everything runs properly before fishing a new line through.

Before you tackle the fuel lines, I'll share this.

I had a very similar problem with my Isuzu powered generator.  When I hooked it up to a gallon can it took off and ran fine.  I was
in a shop in Montgomery, AL on another issue and mentioned my generator problem to the mechanic.  He tried it both ways, tank fuel and gallon can.  When it worked on the can he stood up and went outside and jumped in the shop pickup.  He came back from NAPA with a new electric pump and installed it.  Took five minutes.  Problem solved.  May be worth looking at.

MM, I don't know what year your coach is but a couple of years ago my '99 coach exhibited the same symptoms.  Due to the age of my coach I had all the fuel lines replaced.  However, I suspect that the actual air leak was right at the area where the rubber hose connected to the brass hose barb.  If I had simply cut a couple of inches off the end of the hose it might have eliminated the problem.  You might try that before you go to the big job of replacing the entire hose.

To the OP- I have the same problem. How did you get all the air out of the system?
