U270 needs a new hot water system

My 1999 U270 has a leaking 10 gallon hot water tank (Not an Aquahot).  I have found a replacement I could buy that Dometic makes ( WH-10GEA ) ( $1,000) but that exhaust opening doesn't line up with the opening in the outside bay door.  This new heater/tank is more in the middle of the bay and the original exhaust is more towards the left side.  So, I capped the pipe going to the tank and stopped the water leak, but I have no hot water until I do major surgery.  I am wondering who has been down this road before and what their solution was.  Also, I'm interested in the possibility of a tankless hot water system and who has bought and installed one of those.  All ideas and suggestions appreciated!

We have replaced hot water tanks with Atwood models, which is usually a straight forward job. Don't know of others who used Dometic to replace Atwood. Most use the electric / gas models, and NOT the XT model.

PM name:Balcanthez or Chuck on this board. He did a tankless and likes it very much. He does a lot of boondocking.

I ran into a similar problem when my furnace died. The exhaust on the new Dometic didn't line up. The solution was not pretty but we were cold and getting colder.

I have the same issue with my 2004 U270. I plan on trying a tankless if I can find one that fits. If you decide to try to make the Dometic work, you can get it for a lot less than $1000 on Amazon.
