Kitchen faucet

After 30 minutes of searching found many upgraded kitchen faucets but no info on how to get the old one off. Underneath is a corroded piece of metal with a hole in it. Turning the faucet on top just spins never loosens. Hoping to not have to cut the sink out as some have done to put the new faucet in. The old one broke off where the handle went into the housing so this is not elective surgery but required.

I removed the shelf under the kitchen sink to make working room.  Put an old quilt on the floor and under sink so I could lay on my back to work.  Very tight working quarters.  The old faucet securing hardware was rusted and corroded into a solid mass.  I tried one of those long handle "faucet wrenches" but it didn't work.  I finally resorted to cutting the retaining nuts off the bottom of the faucet with a Dremel tool and abrasive cutoff wheel.  Totally destroyed the old faucet but it finally came out.

I did the same as Chuck, mostly.  I was able to loosen the big nut from underneath enough to push the faucet up.  Then I put a metal blade in my sawzall.  Case closed.

Thanks Chuck,
I read your post on my searching expedition but does not apply to my faucet. I may use a cutting wheel on the bottom if I can't come up with a better idea. On the '99 the faucet actually screws into a metal plate which on mine has rusted beyond use. I have another one but for whatever reason the faucet spins without lifting out. Like a stripped bolt that just spins.

Im sure you are enjoying this project. Dont hurt your shoulder surgery repair. Air die grinder and a cut off wheel

I was ready with my Dremel tool with the cable when I took a picture of what I was up against with my camera. Whole different animal than what I thought was there. It is out and the new one is in, now for the cleanup. I feel like I did 300 sit ups going up and down in that cupboard.

All righty then. The good news is you probably won't have to do that again.  :))
