generator bearing

Getting ready for a trip and decided to look inside the generator head as I am having circuit breaker problems. As long as I was there will put in a new end bearing. There are no new circuit breakers for my generator so I have bought 3 used ones off Ebay and just didn't believe that they are all bad is why the inspection. Everything looks good so back together tomorrow and will try a new circuit breaker that will require making a mounting plate to see if that fixes the issue. Jeff can't be reached until Thu. as he is taking a class of some kind so I am on my own on this.

Chuck,

Is your end bearing a 6207-2R?

Well, the answer is yes you can have 3 bad circuit breakers bought off Ebay. The new one Mike suggested is working fine, just needs some modifications on the control box to use it. Ran both airs for 45 minutes coach was like a meat locker inside. Need to make a 2" object mount in a 4" hole.

Chuck,

I don't know if the Dr had burnt up some brain cells or what but I didn't realize till these pics it looks like you have the Kubota engine rather than the Isuzu.

Could you post a good pic of the info plate of that generator head?

Was this the first time the bearing had been changed?  What kind of condition did you find it to be in?  I notice that you have 1,575 hours on your generator which is almost exactly what I have on mine.  I'm planning to replace mine before August.

Chuck,

They sure changed breakers between ours and yours as I didn't need to build an adaptor plate. That mount plate will be there long after you hang up the keys.

It's not the hours that are hard on bearings, it's the banging down the road with out turning is what is
hard on them.

That is the hours of the engine. I put a new head on when I fried the old one putting a voltage regulator on. Maybe 200 hours max since then. Bearing is smooth but threw some grease out of the seals, not much. Just decided as long as I had to drain some of the coolant and unhook things to just put a new bearing on while most of the labor was already done.

Here's the photo. Remember I bought the last head available direct from Powertech when I fried the original one. There is a story about the Kabota being in my coach. My paperwork shows the original owner took the coach back under warrantee and had the Villa's switched to Flexsteel as he wanted more room and had the Isuzu replaced by the Kabota generator. He complained the Isuzu vibrated too much and had that done under warrantee also.

Thanks for the pic. as with that info someone can snoop around to see what is available from a local motor shop. The frame info is much of the search for a replacement.

Mike I have an Isuzu 10k. The new Marathon CSA3020 pancake generator head I installed last year with a 5-6.5 adaption( the only way it was available)I had a machine shop make me some 7.5 plates for the Isuzu flywheel 100 bucks.

Bruce,

Do you have a pic or sketch of the plate?  What I am doing while confined here at home base is figure out what a member need to do to replace the power head if there's has failed. With none available from Powertech I'm working on a back up plan for us tinkerers.

Here you are Mike. This generator comes with a metal box wired to their regulator. You need to remove their box and use the regulator that comes with it. Our box will bolt right up. Now the old Powertech is a 10 lead, this Marathon is an 8 lead 4 for the generator 4 for the regulator, all well marked. It is only available in SAE 5 bell housing and 6.5 adaption(it says it can be ordered in 7.5 but not so)That said on my Isuzu it had a 7.5 adaption. And the bolt pattern on the armature was different than the old PT head. So I had a machine shop make new ones off of the old and new plates. Not a big deal. Be aware once to go the Marathon route Jeff will not talk to you about the Marathon head.

Bruce,

Thanks for this info as this is what we need to know as a group so someone can replace their power head in case of a failure. There is no need to re-invent the wheel when others have done been down this road.  People need to realize that there comes a time that when you are working on an antique vehicle you have to be creative and resourceful.

You are right Mike. Things are getting harder to find, and real pricey for these old coaches.
