Door to dash cabinet

2003 295U

The door to the cabinet under the dashboard will not open. It has a push and release mechanism, but it will not release. Anyone have a bright idea? Maybe it is now just a wall with no cabinet.

Try lifting up the dashboard and see if you have access to the latch

Looks like a mess to try and get to it.  You can see in the 4th photo that the cabinet behind the door is a 4-sided plywood box, so you can't even get inside by removing the drawer.

Thanks for the replies. At this point I think I will keep messing with the door and until it releases, we will have a solid wall. Fortunately, I emptied the cabinet before closing the door.
