Onan propane 6.5 kw problem in 1989 Grand Villa 300 HP 3208T

It appears my Onan propane 6.5 kw is shot. Does anyone know whether the unit is removed from the bottom or can it be slid out from its present location?

On my 95 U240 it slides out the bay behind the driver's front tire.

Hi Harry. Welcome to the forum. I would suggest you let some of our forum members help you troubleshoot the problem with your Onan before you pull it out.

I purchased recently. Generator powered two 13,500 colemans no problem 3 hour trip home. It sat for week then I took it out to get fuel. I was running generator as I had one A/C on. I started to hear metal, squeaky noises from I believe near fan area. I shut it down. A week later I started it up. Squeaky, metallic noises started immediately but soon went away after like 5" of running. Suddenly the generator stopped abruptly with a loud screech. I waited a day and tried to start it. Turns over well but will not start.. Also, I noticed when it was running the OEM voltmeter in the coach was wildly gyration between 104 and 110 volts

Harry,

It has been quite a while since I worked on one of those coaches generator. During that time period they made some of those generator mounts that if you put a floor jack under the outside cross brace and lift up slightly. There are 2 bolts that hold this brace to the frame right at the edge of the door that has to be removed. Doing this would allow you to lower the floor jack as the back side is on somewhat a hinge. Doing this would allow you to get to the backside to unbolt and lift it up with an engine lift. Yours may be altogether different but give it a look.

Once out you may just need to replace the brush holder assembly as it can make that kind of sound if it breaks and shorts out.

I had a 50 hour Onan propane ORED generators armature fail. Wires sticking out visibly in the generating end. Cummins/onan in Phoenix replaced the gen part over a few hours on dec 23. Not a hard  job for experienced techs. You could see the wires externally
