Dometic Fridge model 3807 in 1984 foretravel

Dometic Fridge model 3807

My fridge has no lights on the control panel and isn't working. There was a spark when shore power connection at rv was unplugged last night, now no lights today. I checked for 120 power at fridge plug in, it has power. Has anyone run into this before? Anyone have any suggestions, checked circuit breakers and fuses at the panel. Is there any other fuse locations I may be missing?

Possibly at the back of the fridge inside the black control box? Not familiar with that model Dometic. Jim.

The lights are 12 volt. You need to check at the rear of the refrigerator. Should have a large red wire, probably 10 gauge that goes into a junction block. If it has 12 volts, then remove the cover for the circuit board and there is a 12 volt fuse on the board. Make sure to unplug the 120 volt plug as it also puts 120 volts on the board.

The access cover on the outside of your coach for the rear of your fridge. Remove that and look for a black box, 4"x5". there is instructions on how to remove cover on the box. Check for 12v power at fuse. Jim.

Thanks, found and removed the cover, both fuses tested good, what's next?

There is a plug on the circuit board that is a cable that connects up to the inside panel. When you test the 12 volt fuse, does it have 12 volts at both ends of the fuse. If it does, then you might have a bad circuit board.

Does the 120 have to be plugged in to test those fuses, both ends?

NO. The controls, lights, ignitor, gas valve, etc are 12 VDC.

120 is for the electric heating element only.

Ok, checked both sides of fuse attachments. The 3 volt fuse only has power to one side of fuse attachment. The 5 volt fuse doesn't have power to either side of fuse attachments. I do have the fridge controls on the front of the fridge unplugged, as I took it off to clean it. Maybe that is the cause of no power to 5 volt fuse?

The 3 amp not volt fuse should have power to both sides, if not then the fuse is bad. The 5 amp,not volt fuse is for the 120 volt. With it unplugged from the 120 it shouldn't have any voltage on it. Like Brett said all of the controls are 12 volt. Please be careful while troubleshooting this as if the 120 was plugged in and you touched the wrong place you would get shocked. You might try to find a u tube on troubleshooting a Dometic refrigerator. Please be careful, I didn't realize that you didn't understand the operation of the control circuit. The upper board will need to be plugged in before it will operate on 120 or on gas.

Thank you, my mistake on the fuses, I know they are amps. No question, I have the 120 unplugged, don't want to get zapped. When I checked the fuse contacts, the fuses were removed so that I could see if both sides had power. I don't touch any wires where there is 120 involved. Are you calling the controller panel the upper board? Ok, so my fuse contacts check out, I think I'll put the controller panel back in place, and see if I am lucky and it suddenly works. But I'm not holding my breath for it, sometimes it does work that way, I'll let you know. If it doesn't work, where do I go from here? I looked at Amazon, it looks like they have a brand new replacement lower board for under $100. Do you know anything about that?

Still no lights and still no fridge working. Shouldn't it work on one or the other? I don't understand this failure. Is there any way to tell which controll panel is bad. I'm assuming that is the problem.

Ok, got it, it now works, was a loose wire at the upper control board, it's all good now. Thank you all very much for the help. This unit has been a little more difficult than expected, there are so many different systems that I am not familiar with. The next think I have to tackle is the charging system wiring. I'll be back.
