Generator pulled

On my 03 U320 with 10kw powertech I got the generator out pretty quick.

Going to replace motor mounts, end bearing, and pan rust mitigation.

1) see pics below.  Do I simply remove the end cap and pull the bearing or is this the one where the exciter needs to come out as well ?

2) I see mounts for the motor and generator and I see mounts for the cabinet to roller frame.  I assume both sets should be replaced. Does anyone have part numbers from novibes.com for both types?

Anything else I should proactively address while it's put of the coach?

Any help would be greatly appreciated !

I rebuilt my generator pan (was really bad) I called FT for the isolators, new end bearing on the motor, new water pump, T-stat and silicone hoses and H2O pump belt. Mike from Alabama has a write up with part numbers. Search on here.
Just double check as I tried three different belts as "the correct" PN ones were too loose. Finally got one that worked. Enjoy your new project

Mine is a 2002 and I just removed the four flat head screws and pulled the end off.  There was one wire I needed to cut to free up the end and then re-splice when I put it back together.  You may need a bearing separator and puller to get the bearing off.  There is an o-ring in the bore where the bearing rides and mine was torn.  Jeff from Powertech said it was unnecessary so I went without it.  It is available on Amazon but I didn't have time to wait.  I think it was 1/8" x the O.D. of the bearing.

No.  I simply replaced the bearing, reassembled and spliced the one wire that I had to cut.  It fired right up.

Charlie, here is the link to my writeup when I totaly rebuilt that area.

Generator refresh but with new style mounts

In my case the pan was in terrible shape and I redesigned the thing to avoid ANY future issues with corrosion, as well as I used a totally different mount that is more readily available vs the costly OE ones. Not to say one could not also find a similar mount and still use the original pan. All I have read on the OE mounts they are very pricey and sometimes very hard to find. As some have stated the belt situation seems to be a bit odd on some units, sorry cannot explain what that is all about.
As for the end bearing I only had to remove the end cap, but did have to slowly feed the wires down through a hole section in order to get the end off.

My pan only rusted on the generator section. I'm gonna cut out and weld some  new steel in that area.

I found no less than 3 exhaust leaks. Someone had been in there before me and did not tighten up the 90 at the manifold, didn't tighten the bolts at the pipe union, and a crack in the ultra expensive flexible pipe at the "muffler".

The original mounts were in bad shape so I will replace those too.

Valve adjust, t-stat, water pump, belt, and coolant flush all on the list.

Did you need to burp the coolant lines ? I saw the write up on that so it should be pretty straight forward.

Yes there will be air in the system. Follow the instructions on the recovery tank with the valves.

Thanks, My pan was pretty shot mainly on the bottom. I did not want to rebuild it in a way that rust would once again be an issue over time, that and I worked for the Polycarbonate industry for 36 years and had lots of thick poly on hand. I beefed up steel wise what was left, multi layer coated all steel then used the Poly for the base as it will never rust.

My base mounts were ok, so reused those, but that style is very easy to find...the unique top mount ones are not. As for the coolant, I used a coolant vacuum fill device that makes it so no burping is necessary, Id go with the same coolant you have in your coach engine, that way its all the same fluid.

While you in there also replace the Fan start capacitor, as well as relocate the new one to an easier to get to location.
