Generator High Temp

Started the generator today.  It ran 5 minutes or so and shutdown showing the high temperature light.  Checked coolant.  All well there.  Top coolant hose from cap to engine is hot, but hose from engine to the radiator in the front driver side bay is cold.  Fan is working.  I had an issue earlier this year and added a tiny bit of coolant and it worked with no more issues  I was thinking my thermostat was starting to act up.  So it looks like my thermostat is not opening at all now.  I had ordered one earlier in the year just in case and have it on hand.  I'm assuming I have to disconnect the exhaust and remove a few bolts to slide out the generator (Powertech 10K)?  It looks like I need to remove generator enclosure panels to get to the thermostat.  Has anyone done this that can give me a little guidance here. 

We were going to head down to Q soon, but not without the generator.  Please correct me here if it could be something else that I am missing.

Does yours have a water pump belt and is it intact?

That would be the only belt I see in the front of the engine (right side)?  I am pretty sure it was there.  I will check in the morning.

It could be air locked so depending on which power unit you have you may have a petcock that can bleed trapped air out hid behind on the thermostat housing.

My little skinny belt gave up the ghost- bought a larger one- all good. No tension pulley on mine. Had to remove the top 4 bolts on top pulley to install. Not a big chore. Didn't have to remove exhaust pipes

Few years ago we had similar issue. Turns out the belt was so out of adjustment that the belt was barely spinning and idler hadn't been working for so long that it had froze up. Talk about poor maintenance. Embarrassing to admit. 
  New belt and idler along with a good hose out job on the radiator and all was good again.    I check the tension occasionally now.

 So dang much stuff to keep an aye on. But still better than a motel.
