No travel light 2004 u320

I have a friend that has an 04 u320 no travel light, it does go to travel height. He said that the first time it happened he ran the front slide out and in, then had the green travel light. The next time he went to use it, no travel light. He has set the distance to 3/16 inch. It was about 1/2 inch. Still no travel light. He was going to replace the switches, but they are nearly 300 dollars each. I am not sure how to test the switches. There is a red wire, white wire, and a black wire that comes from the cn12 plug. According to the operator manual that I have, the red is 12 volt +. The white wire is ground and the black wire is switched ground. My guess is that when the room is in the magnet activates the black wire ground, which would turn on the travel light. When it comes to computer things, I don't know how to troubleshoot, always afraid of doing more damage than help. The service manual that I have only covers the level system and not the slides. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ron

$300 for a reed switch? Must be an HWH part  :D

Random thoughts ...

I recall the red and white wires were common (joined) on the room in and out sensors, it was only the black that was the switch.  You could probe on the control module end for that slide and see if voltage is being passed on the black wires when the slide is in/out, easier than pulling off the top valance.

When I was determining which switch was the side in vs out, I checked with the side half out and used a magnet to manually activate the switches, of course you have to remove the top part of the valance to do that.

Make sure they adjusted both the side in and out sensors, I've seen some confusion between the slide sensors (reed) and those light on/off switches that are also in that same area.

I don't know on that year does the hwh control box down under not have led's that tell you if it thinks the slide is open or closed?

It probably does, but I don't have the slide out manual. Maybe I can find it online from HWH. Finding things online are a challenge, but will give it a try. Thank you for the help. Ron

The reed switches can be checked using a magnet and an ohm meter.  The leds on the control box will tell you which switch is not showing closed.  This info is for my coach.  Not sure that you have the same locking pins.

The manuals should be available on the HWH website or maybe i the forum library.

Just as a point of information the 2004 doesn't have locking pins. Unfortunately I can't add anymore information.

Figure out what model HWH you have. Several different models. HWH does have better troubleshooting post 2001. 2002 is different as is 2003. I haven't worked on but mine. I do know you need to accomplish a series of needs before the travel light will illuminate. Slide needs to see retracted and certain models locked. Need to see within range air pressure for ride height function. Once the prerequisites have been met it will display. Sorry I'm not much help. I was never able to make those three wire switches read anything that was useful to me. Believe they use capacitance to value position???

2004 U320, I'm guessing 2 slides, so it should have the 2000 series HWH system.  Not sure if it's a tag model, but no magnets or pin locks it has reed switches on the slide/body.

DSD capacitense is beyond me. I called HWH this morning to order a service manual. I am sure that there are supposed to be certain led lights lit up, but without a manual, don't know which ones. Yes it is 2000 series with tag axle, 2 slide outs with air seal.

They have many manuals online also.

I tried the online way, because I figured it would be quicker. I am not computer savvy enough for that. Give me a book with paper pages and I feel like I have a better chance of finding what I need.

I just had this happen to me today with the 04. We stopped at a book store and parked the coach in a slightly uneven parking lot. When we went to leave about 2 hours later, the travel light would not come on and the transmission would not go into gear. Had the level system light on the dash as well. Turns out the bedroom slide had slipped out a touch and wasn't making contact with the switch. I hit the retract switch and it came in an inch or so and then everything was fine.

I also had the rear slide creep out preventing travel mode.  Just takes a tiny amount and the contact switch thinks the slide is out.
