Generator cooling system capacity

For an 03 U320 with a powertech 10k what is the total coolant capacity for the generator cooling system. Recommended type ?

There were 2 different engines used in the 10k. 4 cyl. Kabota and 3 cyl. Isuzu. It will depend on which you have. I use the Final Charge from Peak so I only need one type of coolant to carry on the coach.

3.1 liters or 3.37 qts. download the manual and keep it for other questions.

Thanks Craneman,

I did read that but I'm questioning whether or not that is the capacity for the entire system.  When I pulled the generator out I had more than a gallon in the catch pan. I still have a half a gallon in the overflow reservoir.

I was initially planning to flush it then  add concentrate for half the capacity then add water to fill it. Maybe safer at this point to flush it then fill it with 50/50.

If you have the side radiator that would not be included in the generator specs.

Here is the page from the owners' manual that came with our 2003.

We always ran the same ELC that was in the main engine.

ETA - here is the link to the owners' manual on the forum  (it's in the media section)  The selected media item is not currently available.

Seems like I bought one gallon of concentrate and one gallon of distilled water and I was still a little short.  I used Fleetguard complete  OAT.

I make my own 50/50 anti freeze. Distilled water is pretty cheap. They charge a lot for that in the premixed.

So when using an airlift to refill the cooling system am I correct in assuming the two valves on the side of the coolant reservoir need to be opened until full ?

I pulled the vacuum with the valves open to fill the system but then you have to go through the air purging procedure which is spelled out somewhere here on the Forum. Basically you disconnect the two lines and put them in a catch can and blow compressed air into the overflow line connected to the filler neck.  Normal operation of the generator is with the valves closed.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm surprised you had to burp it post fill.  I thought the airlift vacumm process would eliminate any and all air.

I did mine about 2 years back, used the full concentrate and DI water, Cheaper and a better mix. Same Coolant I use in my coach Cummins engine. ( Peak Final charge) The 50/50 premix is much weaker than 50/50 if checked with a Hydrometer, plus quite a bit more cost than making your own with DI, Plus you know what protection you really have when you mix your own. I bought 2 gallons of full concentrate and had plenty to fill the entire system.

Mine is the 10K, Kubota engine, side external mounted radiator.

As for the Vacuum filling device, mine came with several adaptors. I was able to configure one that went straight into the neck of the radiator cap, therefore the tap for the reservoir tank was not in play. Using this was able to suck all but just a few tablespoons into the system, which I poured in after. Put the radiator cap on. Then filled the overflow/reservoir to the high mark just to be on the safe side. My reservoir does not have any valves, its just a simple poly tank connected to the overflow "T" on the Cap neck. Been running for 2 years with no issues.
