Smoke detector

My carbon monoxide propane detector is shot and I also have a propane detector near the floor.
What I think the one I just took out which is near the ceiling should be a carbon monoxide and a
smoke detector?

Co2 detector in our coaches tend to be a singular unit with a separate smoke detector on ceiling. You can probably get a direct fit replacement from the manufacturer. These are dated and typically replaced every five years as best practice. Sometimes the ones on eBay or Amazon are not fresh inventory. The manufacturing date is printed on them. Using the manufacturing website I was able to find one that fit exactly.

CO near the ceiling is hardwired as is LP near floor.  As noted, these have a 5-7 year life.  We found the LP detector is still available in its original format; the CO detector has changed slightly.  See What did you do to your coach today X (2024)

The smoke detector is battery-operated and separate (ceiling mounted).  It's just a basic residential model (we bought our replacement unit at Lowes.)  They typically have a 7-10 year life.

When replacing a smoke detector need to get one that is both ionization and photoelectric.  You need one that does both so any type of fire can be detected sooner.

Very important to follow what TurboJack said about detecting both types of fire. You will all find the old original 12v hard wired mounted near floor propane detector will continue to work for may years IF you put a switch on the 12v power wire feeding detector, turn off power to reset detector and use detector as a backup. Do buy another battery operated Propane detector that is mounted somewhere near the floor. Battery powered household CO detectors with digital readout should be a separate, not combined with smoke detector. Several CO detectors are good insurance with two mounted in bedroom to prevent waking up dead from a nearby RV running a generator with dangerous exhaust quietly flowing into your bedroom.
