Slide Locking Pins

When taking off from our last stop. when I retracted the slide, the Red Light on the key pad did not go out and the locking pins did not engage. When looking at the light indicator box in the storage bay, the front upper locking pin green light is on and rear upper locking pin light is out.
I tried using a magnet on the senor switch on top of the slide but didn't seem to do anything.
Any suggestions?

Mark, make sure the fluid level is full. Mine seems to be sensitive to just a few ounces low. Jim.

Sensor switches do go bad.  They are also pretty delicate.  Did you remove the switch and use a continuity checker while sliding a magnet along the switch or did you try to check it in place?

If the pins are engaged, it is ok to drive.  I even drove for several months with one pin receiver block removed.  HWH did not seem to think that was a problem.  If you were able to drive with the red light on, it means that the over-ride switch is on.  Also OK as long as you know it is.  It should normally be in the off position.

Rich, I just tried it with the magnet and sensor in place. Neither of the pins are down and engaged. The red light stays on as long as I'm holding the retract button.  What really is strange is that it will go into gear and I can drive it regardless of which direction the bypass switch is at.

I did check the fluid and it is full.

Mark,

I'm having trouble visualizing what you are doing.  I can't reach the top pins with the slide in.  And I have pretty long arms.  I assume you have removed the trim piece that covers the pin mechanisms and maybe the top valence on the slide to give you access?  Even then, I'm not sure I could effectively reach across the top of the retracted slide.

This time of year, you may be able to get a call back from HWH tech support, or call FOT if you are a Motorcade member or MOT service dept.  It requires some trouble shooting that is a little complicated for me.

What are the bottom pins doing?  You can see them in the bay below the slide.

Thanks Rich, yes, I have the trim and valance off. I actually made a long stick with a disk magnet on the end allowing me to slide it under the sensor.
I don't think I can see my bottom pins from the bay, but I also have never tried. I will get in there and see what I can see.
I appreciate your help, I will try to give Lon a call at HWH, he has helped me in the past, or if I can't figure it out, it may be time for another HWH road trip.
I may also just try to find the sensor part number and swap it out to see if that works.
Another question I have is, by taking the wires loose from the sensor and holding them together, does that complete the circuit making the system "think" the slide is in?

Thanks again.
