New Furrion Chill Cube Air conditioners

I finally got rid of my old, loud Dometic air conditioners. I have been hauling around a jug of R410A just to keep them going. They were only about 8 yrs old but both have been leaking for about 5 years. I just installed 2 Furrion Chill Cube inverter variable speed 18K BTU A/C's. I slept so well last night not having to hear those old loud Brisk II's cut on and off. I have them both set on 70. It is 95 outside and it is 68 inside. Both are running on low fan speed and I am at 40.4 Db...pretty dang quiet for a non ducted system.

I take it that it doesn't plumb into the ducted system and only can do the single cold air exhaust point?

They do make one that is made for a ducted system, mine is set up for a direct dump.

Just pulled the trigger on 2 Tosot 15k ACs yesterday. Supposed to be 8.5 EER which is about as good efficiency as it gets for RV stuff.
Our Duo-therm penguins are still working but there 30 years old I was getting nervous.  And they were $200.00 off each for 2 more days ,,and they thru in a soft start for $100.00 bucks.

Thank goes out to Elliot for the review.

Something that I liked particularly about this model is the unit vents from both sides or directly out the bottom. I believe the sides are adjustable.  I'll let you know in week when they show up.

I was concerned that these units only had one vent in the front and no side vents. Having the louver that constantly moves gives great circulation though. After your install let me know how they work. From what I hear they are very quiet as well. I am currently working out of town and living in the Grand Villa....Quiet is so nice!

That's what held me up from ordering. All pics just showed a vent at the one end.  But found a YouTube that showed vents at both ends , apparently adjustable but not buy hand.    And supposedly vented straight down is an option.  We'll see.

I'm too lazy to read the fine print.  Does the Furrion come with a complete system ?  Including the inside panel ?  It's own remote ?
Thanks.

It's a real testament to Foretravel quality that these 30 and 40 year old coaches are still on the road and worthy of upgrades. It also says a lot about the old Colemans. Even though they are noisy, they do (or did) last a long time.

My Furrion is sitting in the garage waiting to be installed.  You need to buy two pieces.  The rooftop unit and the inside air distribution box (ADB).  The inside ADB includes the remote.

Both are somewhat hard to find.  I got mine from Amazon (with the Foreforums link ;-)).

Their spec sheet says 15.5A running.  That's a considerable reduction from the 22-23A my Penguins pull, especially with 3k more BTU.  Are you seeing 15A or so per unit Karl?

The only drawback I see here is they don't offer a heat pump unit.  Although I rarely use them, it's nice to have a backup to the AH.

I'm hoping that in the future, they will offer a heat strip option as a retrofit.  The inside control panel has a selection for it.  I really will miss the heat strips in our original A/Cs.  Saves us a lot of propane.

If your unit is pulling that many amp, I am amazed it's running on a 20 amp breaker with 20 amp rated wire. There should be no more than 16 amp continuous amps on 12 guage wire.

Interesting as i am in the market for two new ones. I was going to just go with dometic but you have tweaked my interest. Will the remote also work with the aqua hot?

I doubt it very much. I think the one advantage of the remote is you can use it as the thermostat and move it around the coach. I expect to mount mine near the existing thermostat. Also, I don't think the system is designed to handle two units. I don't think the remotes are smart enough to pair to a specific A/C unit.  I expect to be controlling them (especially the rear one when I get a second unit) with the panel on the A/C unit.

Maybe I was thinking of the startup draw.  It's been a while since I checked it.

Peter, remove circuit boards from old ACs.  Place them inside of new ones, re-attach the wires.  Remote runs new ACs and old thermostat runs the Aqua Hot

The interior thermostat on the wall talks to the circuit board in the roof AC.  So, no board, no Aqua Hot control

Does that mean that if I remove the front (zone 1) A/C, the rear (zone 2) A/C and propane furnace will not work?

If I remove both A/Cs, will the t-stat control the propane furnace?

Rich, if you remove the circuit boards the thermostat talks to, you lose control of the heat source controlled through that circuit boards.

I'm going to buy a quiet unit this week.
It seems that we are discussing 2 different units here .
Please state sound and power use for the Furrion , your overall assessment?

The same for the Atmos ?
Thankyou
