Installing generator hood door gas struts

Hi, I ordered two new spring shocks for the generator hood door
after removing the old ones, first thing i did put them side by side to make sure they are the same
no mater how hard I tried to install them they seem to be about 1/8 longer ( yet they match the old ones)
i even had some one help me lifting the hood as far as it goes up
it looks like the hood needs to go higher in order to snap the shock in place
any advise?

Yes, use some type of ratcheting .strap to compress the shocks some and they will fit

I just replaced mine and I used a pipe wood clamp to compress them. It was a major pain even with the pipe clamps. It slipped off multiple times.
