Engine shut itself off

On my 2020 IC37, we drove over 5 hours with zero problems. We arrived at the campsite and when I stepped out to check our location to the utilities, the engine shut down as I was walking back around to the entry door. Once I got back in it wouldn't start. The ring around the start button would flash yellow or green, but nothing happened when I pushed it. The main hall panel shows all batteries above 13V and no error messages. The generator was running, there is plenty of fuel and DEF and there were no dash messages all day. After a few tries I decided to replace the key fob battery and it fired up. I understand it not starting if the fob battery was low, but would it shut down?  Has anyone experienced a problem like this?

I can't ever imagine that there would be a shutdown interlock due to a KeyFob low battery.  Not wanting to start with a low KeyFob, yes, but shutdown after its running no.

Is that 13V the chassis batteries or the coach batteries?  Low chassis battery voltage could cause an issue.

Low coolant level or other sensor. High temp can cause a 30 second half power and then shut down. Can shut down at idle also.

Maybe see if it will start from the engine compartment to get you rolling,worked for me once.

All chassis and house batteries were reading normal. Coolant is completely full. I just started it again and no problems. The engine temps all day were in the normal range of 189-202, so there was no chance of overheating. Everything seems fine now, but the only thing I've changed is the fob battery. I just can't fathom that was why the engine shut itself down.

Since we have been dragged into the key fob generation (kicking and screaming I might add) it might be a fair question to ask a technical person if this is common...... the yellow and green lights might mean something. These key fobs can do some funny things and nowadays I've got a pocket full of them..

This key fob thing has really got my curiosity up even though it's a 100% chance I will never have a motorhome that has one. We have three vehicles that have the darn things and they all react differently when you have to start the vehicle. I am curious as to if the entry door might have been left open and that sent a signal to kill the engine or if the brake was not applied and that kept it from restarting. It could be a number of different things. Also, if you ever damage a key fob, it costs about $400 to replace it...... I got battery acid on one and took about 3 days to get a new one.

This would be a great question for foretavel tech support.  It all depends on how they programed the keyless start to work. It could be setup to turn off the engine if the fob goes out of range.

There should be a code stored on the engine ECM for a shut down event.
Best to find out why, so it doesn't happen at a worse time.

Not familiar with the 2020 but the dash may give you the error code for reason of shutting down.

After speaking to Spartan tech support, I learned that 3 amber flashes on the start button means the air system is too low; 3 green flashes means chassis batteries are too low. This is good to know but it doesn't explain the shutdown. However, I replaced one very weak chassis battery and haven't had any problems since, so I'm not going to worry about it any more.

Fredbrew2, Do you have the bypass ignition key for your coach.  If your push button start doesn't work,  you plug this bypass in and you can start the coach.  If you don't have on yet I would call Foretravel parts and get one.  I think they are around  $200+. If Foretravel don't stoch, call Spartan.  I have the part number somewhere and if you need it I will start searching where I put it.  I know it was a safe spot,  but don't remember now.
