Side view mirror

We have a 2001 U320. The passenger side view mirror is bouncing so badly when driving that you can't see anything in it. Tried to tighten the screws and found that the two inner screws are stripped and just turn in the hole. But I can't get them out. I don't want to forcefully pull the mirror off because I don't want to do more damage. Suggestions?

Sometimes there is a nut on the inside, so check that.

I think what you have is a laminated piece of plywood behind fiberglass backing the mirror fastened with Tee nuts that are stripped. Need to access under dash and replace with lock washer and nut.

What's the best way to get access to that area? Is there a trick to getting this dash off?

I'd look at the circuit panel board first... remove a couple screws and tilt it forward.
