Barry,
I have a 1989 gv ORED model #V-815-sp. It's a 36 foot spring suspension hydraulic brakes with 8.2 liter detriot. I bought it in 2003.
I also have model #g94444640wtbu280we17 which is the 40' u280 that i bought in 2010.
Wasn't aware of the motorcade until I found this forum last year.

Randy,
lift up the dash board cover (should be hinged) and it is under that on right hand side. Should give you build number and some front axle alignment specs.

Mine was inside glove compartment and said Unit#3349 so I assume that is the build number.

Randy,

I don't think that is your build #, as you have a 1994 U-280. On my '92 U-280 the build # is 4055. At that time they were building more than 200 coaches a year, so yours should be somwhere around 4400 + or - 100. FWIW.

Don't ask me why but I have two Foretravels. The 3349 is for my 89 GV. My 94 U280 is 4446 which I'm sure makes more sense.

Yes, I think you have read the build number correctly. But, I don't recognize the second placard (with the model "V-17-") - I'm wondering if the export converter just added that one?

V 17 is the Oshkosh Chassis type,

Our '89 GV does not have the V-17 Oshkosh Truck chassis plate either.

No, That plate was installed by Foretravel, There is nothing on it from the Export Converter,

As far as exporting my Bus, It came straight from the Dealer in Texas, and shipped from California, The Converter does not exist on my paper work,

Your coach should have had the chassis model as v917 appears the 9 was missing

For what it is worth, Red, my '89 GV has the Oshkosh Truck #V-817-2. I think Brian's coach is same chassis as mine except for having a Cat engine and slightly different interior layout.

In the first post of this topic, Barry asked for build numbers and relevant coach info for specific ranges of coaches where he is trying to fill in the blanks on certain years (up through 1994). That's the purpose of this topic.

Barry: Do you have a file somewhere on Foreforums with the known build numbers and do you know what the build numbers are for the new Foretravels today?
I remember something like 6520 a couple years ago.

If there are 6500 Foretravels with 315 million people in USA and 35 million in Canada, then only one person of 55,000 owns a Foretravel in USA and Canada.
There are 750,000 people on Vancouver Island (Canada) and I know of only 8 Foretravels (there could be more), so that is one in 90,000 people.
We Foretravel Owners are rare indeed.

Hi Barry, the VIN is 10T9M9A31E1023468 The number under that on my data sticker is labeled 'Type' & that number is FTX8524233500ORED-C. I think the Last 5 digits are ORED-C but it might be Zero RED-C... The date of mfg is Sep 84 & the model year on the title is 1984. The number above the windshield is 15691. From what you've posted, I think my build number is 2423. I appreciate your help in verifying or correcting my assumption. Fred

Mis identified as its a 85.

Now I know a little bit more about these plates,
The one on the right is for the Chassis Build, From Oshkosh,
The one on the left is for the Foretravel Build Specs,

The one on the right will be attached to your Coach some where, Maybe rivetted to the Chassis, They are both required by law, and must be permanently attached to any Vehicle, They are the manufacturers ID for registration,

Yes, I think your build number is 2423. ORED is chassis = Oshkosh Rear Engine Diesel
There's a difference between "model year" and "date of manufacture". I would say you have a 1985 "model year" because of the "FTX85" in Type number. Not unusual for "date of manufacture" of coach and engine/chassis to be a year earlier. Found this to be interesting : Model year - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Probably be sorry I jumped in but...the build numbers aren't model-specific but only sequential from the very first Foretravel up to and including the one just starting down the line. Also, if there were a Foretravel for every person in North America we'd still be a "rare Breed!"
