Creation Window locks

I have managed to break off two of the tabs on my Creation windows locks.  It looks like replacement locks can be pop-riveted on.  Has anyone else had the problem...and found replacement locks??  It isn't likely those windows would open on their own, but it would be nice to get them back to their original condition, with the locking tabs.  Thanks...

I think that Xtreme has replaced a few windows with upgraded ones from time to time.  You might give Jim or Jennifer a call...what a ya gotta loose?

Hi Brad & Christine,

If you have the same types of windows that I have in my '99 270, you can purchase the locks directly from Foretravel in either black or red.  I replaced five of mine in January using pop rivets.

One of our locks (2003) broke a few weeks ago and it should be similar to yours.  Pat called FOT and yes, they do have replacements, but only in red.  They cost about $7 each and the rivets are about $0.50 each.  For me, the rivets were worthless since I don't have the proper tool, but I was able to find a small bolt (10x24, 1/2" I think) and a self locking nut.  Works like a charm.  See the photo.

Bought new plastic locks from Foretravel and used a short bolt and nut to fasten with a drop of Loctite to keep nut from loosening.  Red & black are identical windows and open the same way. No need to use red lock, if you don't want.

LOL.  I see I'm not the only one to break them.  Frankly, I didn't even think that the "mother-ship" in Nac would carry such a little part.  Thanks, everyone.

What there would one use to lock the sliding screens on a '94 U225?
It is not a lock but you can use a dowel as a temporary measure.
I use one to keep my closet sliding mirror from opening.
Or you can put a screw in the track to prevent opening.

Here is the email I got in return.  Sounds like the rivets aren't needed anyway.  The pictures of the bolt/nut combinations look like an easier (and prettier) fix than using pop-rivets.

"Hi Brad,

These are $5.00 plus shipping.
No, they do not come with rivets.

Thank you,

That should work.  The cats love open screened windows.  Don't think they would try to escape, cause they seem to be afraid of open doors and run the other way - but one can't be careful enough.

Pat, I'm not sure I understand what you are asking but if it is a source for the plastic handle for the screens, Hehr Intl., in Newton, Kansas should have them. (316) 283-6100

When the windows are open, the screens are extremely easy to slide to open position from the closed position.

All the windows are the same, and can be used as emergency exits.  Foretravel just used enough red latches to meet legal requirements.  I broke two of mine a couple of years ago, and got the replacements with nuts and bolts from Foretravel.  Next time one breaks, I'd like to use something more break-resistant.  I'm thinking of a flanged radio knob with one side of the flange cut away.

has anyone had to replace those plastic locks on the sliding windows, and if so are they available and where?? I have just removed one that has been broken for a long time and have drawn up a sketch to make one in Aluminum but thought it prudent to ask first as it may save time and a lot of fiddling around as the sizes do not really match any material available, so I will have a lot of filing etc to do.
They are the ones that operate at a 90 degree arc to go from closed to open. I have tried to Google them but so far no luck.
Thanks for any help.

That is what this thread was about.  Those little plastic twist locks for Creation windows (and maybe others?) $5 each (seems ridiculous, but what isn't these days) or $7 each...take your pick.

John,

We moderators apologize - a couple of us were involved in the chain of actions that moved your new topic from "Forum How-To's", which is about the forum operation, to "Tech Talk" and then merging it with this recent topic which we remembered.  We definitely didn't intend to make anyone look dumb  :-(
