Tonight, Marilyn complained that the water closet was chilly. I found that the front furnace was not firing. It circulates cold air nicely. It appears that all is working properly except for the ignition spark. I may try to fix that on the road. I expect a new igniter board will fix the problem.

Dave,

I see from your SPOT check-in that you're just south of Wichita - reasonably close to Ron Hawkins at Innovative Coach Works.  Ron's a member here (rhawk6) and a FT owner http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?action=profile;u=147

You might ping him at ICW - www.icoachworks.com

Dave, I once had a problem on my U225 where the front furnace fan would run but no heat. Like yours it would ignite for a few seconds and then the flame would go out. It turned out to be a propane regulator. Somehow the back furnace and water heater worked fine but not the front furnace or the refrigerator while on gas. It was a $29 fix but I spent 10 times that trouble shooting and changing furnace parts before an Atwood tech checked the gas pressure.  FWIW

Replaced the 400 pound round corian table with a nice "harverst" table. Secured to the old table mounting arm with an aluminum angle bracket. Much better arrangement and seating.

Most interesting discovery today, while tracking down a possible fuel leak on the Power Tech Generator, I found (1) the air filter is stopped up enough to collapse the air hose between the air filter and the intake, found it had 417 hours on the filter. (2) the generator is a 2006 year model and a 12 kw, so looks like it had been changed out since the coach is a 2001 model. Similar to Steve & Michelle's experience last year. Love to know the rest of the story.
Back to the air filter, I think I will look for a better intake position for the intake air to the filter.  I feel the air filter should last longer than 400 hours.

Mike,

Based on the black on rear grill, I would say that you are replacing your exhaust manifold. Am I right? I had a slightly more round black "tatoo" on the grill last year, and fortunately it was just the exhaust manifold gasket. Unfortunately, for some reason the thermostats got toasted during the process, so I had to turn around before I got it home and take it back for new thermostats.

Dave: My Onan 7.5 KW instruction manual says change out the air filter at 450 hours (200 hrs for fuel filter and 100 hrs for oil filter).

Hi Don,
Yes, I guess it was due on time run, I see I put more hours on the generator that I had thought.
Also was good to meet you at Xtreme last month, I seem to be visiting That shop more than needed, but do like the work they do.

It appears I am getting propane to the furnace. I hear a click, then smell propane, but there is never ignition. I think the click is a propane valve opening. I never hear the snap of an igniter, nor do I see any flame or feel any heat from the exhaust.

We are doing fine with the rear furnace, which heats the bays, the bath, and the bedroom. We are using a small electric heater for the front when we are parked. I'll probably wait till we get home to address the equipment failures on this adventure.

I'll have more to report on "What did you do ... ."

Yup! Thanks for the suggestion. We are good for now. We plan to be home in a week and we'll make do until then. I'll work on it at my leisure. Time with the grandkids is the priority right now.

If only one furnace works, I prefer to keep the rear furnace working. It provides some ducts into the bays. I'll probably buy a Dinosaur board in any case. If it fixes the problem, I'll probably buy another as a spare before we head for the cold weather again. If it doesn't fix it, I'll keep the board for a spare.

Bill,

When you say you clean the A/C coils every year, do you clean both condenser AND evaporator.  It is the evaporator that really gets cruddy and affects air quality inside the coach.  But, on some A/C's it is also much more difficult to access than the condenser.

Brett, as you know the filter system on RV a/c is not the best, I clean both coils yearly, a little TLC will go a long way.

Could you describe your process for cleaning the ducts etc.? I am sure that that is something ours desperately needs!

Don,  remove all duct grills, what I use is a 10 ft.  piece of #6 awg wire, clean rags dampened with a mild solution of bleach water, fasten rag securely to wire, feed wire from one grill opening to the other, pull rag through the duct repeat as needed.

Wow! Quite a job to do alone. I would have just unfastened everything and let 'er drop. :P

Good job. Do you have another one to put in place of the one you took out? And will you do that alone, too?
