Earlier this week used gasket silicon to fill all gaps on all the bay doors. Cleaned and lube all door hardware

Timely subject, I've just been crawling around in my bays, appalled at how dirty they are.  Is it conceivable that they can be sealed tight enough that they don't leak dirt in?

Today I took the coach to the local Michelin tire dealer to have a small leak in inside driver side dually.  Bad luck...Forrest is there overnight.  One of the studs was frozen (on the inside wheel) broke-off and no one in Cincinnati had a spare part.  Called Mark Harvey and could not pinpoint the axle make...either Meritor or Rockwell.

More tomorrow...

Peter,

I believe they are one in the same-- that Meritor bought Rockwell.

But to verify, there will be a thin stamped plate on the axle housing itself that will identify the maker and particular model number of your axle.

Brett,
Thanks...these guys are from TCi Tire Centers which is a Michelin, Inc. wholly owned subsidiary.  Apparently they do not do much chassis repairs.  They seemed confused when they saw the axle & hubs.  My luck...

Seems like we 'automatic leveled' too much recently so got a new driver side windshield.  Sure is nice to have one that is free of rock nicks!

Installed the 4" drop receiver adapter, then shortened it up about 10", had to drill the 5/8" hole so it did not put the Blue Ox so far behind where it had been, now it is back an additional 12" from the original non 4" drop position.

Cleaned and siliconed the window frames, so hopefully they slide a lot easer.  Got out the Old English scratch cover, Beeswax & Wood Dr, and gave the "dry" spots a good going over.  I just love it when the wood has that nice, rich "glow"!

Fixed the bay lights... 5 of six were out.  There were three bad bulbs and two were out due to a bad connection with the push on/off switch for the bay door..... turns off light(s) when bay is closed.  Removed the bay door on/off switch for the utility bay and installed an LED array bulb in one of the lights.  I am going to leave this on 24/7 to hopefully keep rodents out.  We're living in the desert to the west of Tucson (Justin's Diamond J RV Park).

Things are working well. Identified leak at output shaft of steering box. (Oh, no!)

Plan to drive and live in it for another week +-

Installed a new Sealand Traveler 511+ toilet.  Installed new ballast and bulbs in a Thin Lite overhead fixture.  Cleaned shower, and replaced some caulking.  Installed a repaired day/night blind at kitchen window.  Replaced wooden roller for entry door shade.  Wiped the desert dust from the exterior with a California Duster.  Love that FT shine.

Started, but stopped, cleaning interior cabinets with extra-moisturizing lemon Pledge.  Still looking for Zep Wood Doctor to use instead.  Can't find any locally, and internet search is coming up short except for whole-case purchases.

Reluctant to choose between light wood and dark wood Old English scratch cover alternatives.  Has anyone already determined whether light wood or dark wood option is the best choice for cherry wood interior?

J D,

Chalk's Truck Parts here in Houston has a seal kit for my Shepherd M100 steering box for about $85.

My retired mechanic friend and I will change the leaking pitman shaft seal down at his house on the intercoastal canal when he returns from a Galveston based cruise.

My shaft leak is on the side facing out as you look into the front compartment where the generator radiator is located.  Would be harder if leaking on the inside where the pitman arm is attached.

Bob, I don't know about '02 cherry - but we have '03 walnut, and last week I used the light Old English scratch cover successfully - perfect.  I decided to start with the light, figuring I could go back and buy the dark - but it wasn't necessary.  I don't know if that helps for your cherry wood, though, since IIRC it is quite a bit "redder" than the walnut.

Hope this helps.

Installed and tested an outside 50-amp service receptacle on the shop so I can park the coach outside while storing building materials inside. Once the shop siding is up we'll mine out some space for the FT.

It will be nice having an inside parking spot for the RV only 1.5 blocks from the lake house. I am soooo glad I specified a 14-foot door on that bay. I should have put a 12-foot door on the other one, though.

I had my 84,000 mile service at a local RV service, Chassis Master. This is a one man operation just about as far back in the "boonies" as it is possible to go, in the very northeastern corner of Tennessee but only 20 miles from my house. I had heard very good things about this man (Pete Scalf) and sure enough they were all accurate. The work was thorough, efficient, and all procedures and results were explained. The price for labor is a lot less than TN RV, FOT, MOT and Parliament. He did the service on the Aqua-Hot burner and it fired right up. I was sure to check it before departing. I recommend this man for anyone living in this area, although he does have 2 RV sites with full HU and wifi and cable. There is, however, NO CELL PHONE SERVICE. As I said, it is in the boonies.

Rudy,

Thanks for the hint. Mine is leaking on the inside. Oil is running down the Pitman arm. It looks like it will be difficult to get to it. The leak just started yesterday and is significant. I'll watch the oil level in the reservoir. We are about 350 miles into a 1600 mile trip. I think we'll try to complete the trip.

The current problem is that we lost the cooling unit on the refrigerator this morning. We are picking up an ammonia smell and the temperature in the freezer is rising. We have turned on exhaust vents turned off the refrigerator. We just bought a Coleman 12volt chest to keep some food cool, and have turned on the U-Line to store some frozen stuff. I'll start reviewing the threads on refrigerators.  :(

Dave, arrived in KC yesterday. Temp last night was 25 degrees. Today is got up to 34. It won't stay this way but you wouldn't have had to worry about keeping things cold the last couple of days.

Thought about cursing it, but instead laughed with Marilyn about "adventures in travel."

Yesterday, the puddle of clean oil under the front of the coach indicated that the steering box was leaking. I added three quarts of oil to the reservoir today. I'll get another gallon or two to take along. We'll try to get home at the end of the week and figure out what action to take.

Today, the smell of ammonia indicated that the refrigerator has failed. We moved food to other appliances in order to keep fresh food available. We'll study options now and take action when we get home.

Tonight, Marilyn complained that the water closet was chilly. I found that the front furnace was not firing. It circulates cold air nicely. It appears that all is working properly except for the ignition spark. I may try to fix that on the road. I expect a new igniter board will fix the problem.

I'll be doing a few things to the coach soon, in preparation for our Christmas/New Years holiday trip.

"Adventures in travel" will continue.  :)
