Replaced the original swing up ladder with a two piece ladder.  Obtained the ladder from James S's junk pile and with parts from another ladder, new capture nuts and stainless hardware rebuilt it completely. Ladder is now sturdy and steady and I will not be so anxious going up it.

Finally got the time after 1570 miles to go over our new to us U320 at my sister-in-laws place in Kansas.

Right front tire was 90 psi left front was 100.  Both now 105.  Left inner dual was 85 psi the rest 95.  Now all 95.

Checked the two year old flooded cell three 8d's for water and cable and terminal condition.

Thanks to the poster above I compared the post versus the terminal voltage and all had the same readings.  Good contact.  Batteries seemed like needed some work based on voltage drops after long drives.  Hygrometer tested all 18 cells and all were fairly similar in specific gravity at 1274 plus or minus a little.

The three  8D batteries took exactly 1 gallon of distilled water.  Poor baby had been plugged in only  so who cared apparently.

Cleaned the aluminum corrosion off the main awning arms as no one had put up the big one in a while.

Similar charging rate over 14 volt got me to check the batteries.

I changed engine oil and oil filter and lubed the chassis but the brakes had plenty of grease so did not grease them. replaced the air dryer spin on filter and filter, and replaced the ac line from the engine compressor to the dryer as it was leaking at the compressor and replaced the dryer and recharged it and now have nice cold dash ac, also replaced both front tires with the FMCA program at TCI in Tampa. The old tires were only 4 years old, but had quite a bit of weather checking and were only load range G, which was not heavy enough for this coach, so put on load range H. I think that now we are ready to hit the road for a while. Looks like we will be buying plenty of diesel as figure to drive over 6,000 miles. Enough for now

Since bringing the coach home in March.

Lights- Fixed or replaced a lot of burn't out lights- rocker switch, power mirror control, map light, clearance lights and lenses, front docking lights, storage compartment lights , interior flourescents (bad ballast in the shower fixture and will have to replace).  Replaced the door handle light bulb, porch light and replaced the lighted door bell button(still works!).  Replaced engine compartment light fixture.  Also adjusted the warning beeper to alert for air pressure, antenna up and turn signals as I am still new and need some help!

Leveling system- Fixed a broken wire on the hwh 12vdc compressor (now working) and cleaned out plugged up exhaust ports(mud daubers). Auto leveling seems to be working okay.

Fluid levels- Checked radiator level and filled reservoir (needed about 1 gal)  Noticed a small leak at the cap driving it home so I replaced it with a new one but not sure if it stopped. All other levels,  oil, trans, etc. are okay. I will change them all including filters in the near future. I also filled the winshield washer reservoir with rain-x  and adjusted the wiper blades.

Fixed leaks in ice maker filler hose, under kitchen sink and kitchen faucet. Small leak around the  shower skylight and I'm still working on that.

Checked the bulkhead bolts and will address that when possible. Tire pressures are good and front hub oil levels are to.

Original inverter isn't working (taytronics 1500).  12vdc in is good but no 120vac out so I disconnected it and will have it repaired or replace it.
Any suggestions?

kubota 10k runs good but noticed small leak around radiator. I will do more more checking as I service it.  Coach batteries(wet cell) became to weak to start the genny so I pulled them out and discovered they were almost bone dry. They are almost 6 years old and probably bad by now. The PO had them replaced but I don't think he ever checked them for water level! It took over 2 gallons of distilled water to top them off and I hope I can charge them back up and get them to hold.

I believe I have covered everything thus far and probably left out a few things.  Thanks to all the expert advice from fellow members I am confident and will be able to do most of the maintenance myself. Pride of ownership has turned this into a hobby/obsession that I really enjoy!

Possibly fuse or circuit breaker problem. These are repairable but equivalent inverters are probably cheaper than the cost of repair. I have been a skeptic of buying "pure sine" inverters but the prices on these in the 1500 watt range have come down to the point where they are within reason.

If you have not yet done so, I recommend buying a Progressive Dynamics charger/converter and replace the original. I have no idea what you have in your coach but the older chargers were famous for burning up batteries and the first symptom is boiling out the water.

I chose not to get a combination inverter/charger and opted instead for separate units. I had no "original equipment" inverter in my coach so this let me install it in the place I chose (under the refrigerator in the vacuum cleaner cupboard) right over the batteries.

Good luck. :)

Craig,

Thank for the info. I currently have a Progressive Dynamics PD9160A and just added a charge wizard on advice from Dave Head and is working very well(only$22.89+s&h from adventurerv.net).  I measured 13.6vdc on normal mode and the charge wizard will prevent overcharging by automatically switching to storage mode to maintain optimum charge without boiling the water.  I, like you want to have separate units so if one goes out the other still works.

I tested my batteries with a hygrometer after filling them with distilled water and charging them up. All cells showed discharged so I will be replacing them.  They are Interstate Workaholics about 6 years old.

The Prosine 1500-1800 looks like a good replacement for the old taytronics 1500.  It's made for those who already have or want a separate units like you and I have.

thanks buddy .b^.^d

Replaced all incandescent lamps in the bedroom and bathroom with LEDs. Not cheap but you can't throw $100 at a dead battery and bring it back to life!  :D

Yesterday we cleaned all electrical connections on the isolator and found a corroded wire (snapped at a butt splice when I touched it); repaired with a new butt splice.

Just finished waxing the coach. Installed new King Jack antenna this am. We will test that out in a few weeks when we pull out for a 6 week tour.
Next up will be recharging the water softener, flush the tanks, clean out a few inside cabinets and pack. Oh and install the new wine chiller in the outside entertainment bin. Then load up with wine and beer and head out!

Bill installed the new wine chiller and is working on building a cabinet for the slide out closet for shoes and folding clothes.

The chrome exterior mirrors are polished as are the genny, aqua-hot and engine tailpipes.

Coach is all waxed and we are ready to pull out June 3rd.

Had a guy install an Airforce One brake system on my car.  Found out that if I leave my booster switch on while parked in storage for a week, it'll drain down my batteries :P  After 20 minutes of running the generator and a 30 mile drive, it's all good again.  Whew.

Nice forum background for today BTW!  Kudos.

Tightened the nut UNDER the horn so when I adjust the wheel by turning the horn assembly the wheel stays at the height I set it at.
Took the door handle assembly apart. Found a broken spring that returns the outside handle to the in position. Replaced spring. Also found the "lubricating" material (could not determine just what kinds were in there) had congealed/solidified so it was actually hindering/slowing actuating of the parts. Totally cleaned internals and relubed with non-grease lube.

Tried running independent ground wires from fuel gage to frame and from fuel tank to frame to see if my malfunctioning gage was due to bad ground or bad sender. Must be bad sender as grounding didn't change anything.

Next project: Mount female snaps on the sunscreen material we bought in Mission, TX and male snaps on Zip Dee roller. On the roller--screws or rivets??

Before replacing the sending unit, be sure to thoroughly clean the connectors on the switch and to insure a good ground and clean terminals on the fuel gauge itself. A bad sending unit is very rare from my experience. My coach did the same thing until I removed and cleaned all of the terminals. After that it worked perfectly.

I provided encouragement while Steve replaced our fresh water check valve.

This after he had to disassemble the utility bay last week and order PEX tools and fittings in order to do the job.  (I think he secretly enjoyed being able to buy more tools.....)  It's leak testing overnight and Steve has already modified the utility bay panels to use the access door Dave and Dolly included in their "dinner and an access door" trade for our old mudflap parts ;)
